Van Marwijk adds Elia to Oranje

Team manager Van Marwijk added Eljero Elia to the Oranje selection for the Iceland and Norway games.
The 22 year old former Ajax youth player – selected as talent of the year, will make his debut in the national pride.
Wesley Sneijder won’t be fit in time. He is still recovering from a hamstring injury. Afellay already had to bail.
Demy de Zeeuw is stricken with flu and spent the day in bed. Bert van Marwijk does expect to be able to add the AZ midfielder to the group soon.
Robin van Persie had his wisdom teeth operation today. “But Robin will be able to go full speed ahead on Tuesday’s training,” the team manager said today.
June 6, Oranje plays Iceland away. The home game against Norway will be in Rotterdam on Wednesday June 10.
A win against Iceland will be enough for Oranje to qualify for the World Cup.
Oranje’s last game is on September 9 against Scotland, away.
The selection:
Goal: Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax), Henk Timmer (Feyenoord).
Defense: Khalid Boulahrouz (VfB Stuttgart), Edson Braafheid (FC Twente), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Feyenoord), John Heitinga (Atletico Madrid), Joris Mathijsen (Hamburger SV), Dirk Marcellis (PSV), André Ooijer (Blackburn Rovers), Gregory Van der Wiel (Ajax),
Midfield: Mark van Bommel (Bayern München), Nigel de Jong (Manchester City), David Mendes da Silva (AZ), Stijn Schaars (AZ), Rafael van der Vaart (Real Madrid), Demy de Zeeuw (AZ).
Attack: Ryan Babel (Liverpool), Eljero Elia (FC Twente), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Real Madrid), Dirk Kuijt (Liverpool), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Arjen Robben (Real Madrid).

Good to see Elia in the final list, although I’d have liked to see Maduro instead of Boulahrouz.
It looks like Rafa will have his starting position back with Sneijder and Afellay out.

not so sure Miguel if you remember against macedonia we played
huntelaar
robben v persie kuyt
and I would not be too suprised if it was the same

not so sure Miguel if you remember against scotland we played
huntelaar
robben v persie kuyt
and I would not be too suprised if it was the same

WTF Miguel? I hope you mean Maduro instead of Ooijer, that would be the correct suggestion for changes in this selection, seriously.
But anyway, Elia deserves to be in, I hope he plays, i’d love too see him against Iceland, they’re in for a rough time if we play with Robben and Elia, two wingers with speed an who can go past 2-3 guys, with all respect to Kuyt, but he’s never going to have the skill of those 2, he can make up for some in his enthousiasm, but i prefer a real winger.
Anyway, Babel never shows any real progress and Afellay seems to get injured every time oranje has matches coming up, makes you wonder if he really does want to play for oranje.
He’s the best young winger we have, Beerens coming second, then Amrabat and Biseswar. Might even be one of the most talented young wingers in the world.
I’d like to see
first half:
Huntelaar
Robben-V.Persie-Kuyt
De Jong-V.Bommel
second half:
Huntelaar
Elia-V.Persie-Robben
Schaars-De Jong
BTW V.Wolfswinkel from Vitesse to FC Utrecht????? it’s silly and it’s true, one of the biggest attacking talents is moving from a mediocre club to more or less an evenly mediocre club.

well, Utrecht is quite an improvement over Vitesse to be honest. I think it’s a good paced step for such a young fellow. Utrecht is a good club for developing players of his age. Then in a year or two he can step to Ajax or another top club after 2 years of starting experience.

Do we really need van Bommel in the line-up? That guy’s days have come and gone. Schaars deserves to start along side de Jong!

compeletely disagree , i remember him being great in our last qualifyers. if he can play for Bayern i think he deserves to play over a man city and az players. I like schaars and de jong but i think one of them will just have to wait for their chance.

@hai guys i am back after my exams.hope u all enjoyed with superb posts rom jan.i am reading all the comments, think it will take some time.

Guys, this will be the line up that van Marwijk will use:
1- Stekelenburg
2- van der Wiel
3- Ooijer
4- Mathijsen
5- Gio
6- van Bommel
7- Kuyt
8- de Jong
9- Huntelaar
10-van Persie
11-Robben

@mario you could be right.
but i belive vabommel and ooiger are liability.Gio also should be kicked out.

Elia should be picked ahead of Babel at any coast,
i think BVM should call Urby into the mid feild this guy can do miracle with znijder in the mid and hopefully we can go back to 1433
Elia-Persie-Kuyt
Urby-schaars-znijder
Brapheid-Mathjenson-Heitinga-Vanderweil
Steke.
the absence of individual skills of kuyt will be compensated by urby and znijder in the mid.
secong eleven
Roban-Hunter-Vaart
Afaleey-Dejong-Da silva
Bouma-????-????-Zuiverloon
Peit veltuisen
3rd goalie
Michel vorm

I don’t know if you guys watch Ajax a lot, but judging from seeing him play all season I would say Emanuelson is not Oranje material (and he has been in Oranje!). At Ajax he now kind of plays a central striker/roaming attacking midfielder role. Personally, I think it’s a disgrace that someone with his lack of qualities has taken over the position once played by the likes of names such as Bergkamp and Litmanen. Seriously, this is the best Ajax can do for this spot? That being said, I think the formation will be what Mario said, although I hope Bert will take the second half to let Schaars and Elia play at the least.
Anyone else notice that it’s much easier to predict lineups with Van Marwijk?
As for van Bommel and Ooijer, the latter definitely needs to go. We have much better defenders than this guy. The only reason he is still in the squad is because Mathijsen and Ooijer work so well together. This should be possible in a year’s time with Maduro, Boulah, Heitinga, or Marcellis.
Van Bommel, I really don’t like the guy myself, but he has been the workhorse (along with the standard Kuyt) of the last couple of qualification games. I think, while he keeps up this good form, he should stay in the spot. When he starts slowing down, we can send him to the glue factory.
In any case, I think de Jong should always be in the field. He’s like a vacuum cleaner, while Schaars and Van Bommel are more similar in style with playmaking. I think de Jong + van Bommel and de Jong + Schaars complements each other well. Don’t know how’d that work with two similar players van Bommel + Schaars.

after doing elia I though I’d make a video on another star we have wijnaldum!!
I actually im making a series eredivisie stars

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqsJE9KfxQo&feature=channel_page
video for our new biggest thing , WIJNALDUM!!

@Alex: Yes, instead of Ooijer would be better but Boulahrouz as a central defender is good but as righ back sucks.

@ miguel, don’t know if you have noticed but Boulahrouz doesn’t play RB, neither does Ooijer or Maduro. V.d.Wiel and Heitinga are the primary rightbacks in this squad, with enough back-up by Zuiverloon, Mendes da Silva or even De Jong, so there’s no need for him to play there. Therefore i see no reason to replace the better of those two centerbacks with Maduro and leave an over-the-hill-and-into-a-ditch Ooijer in this squad.
BTW have you ever seen Liverpool’s Skrtel as RB, that’s ten times worse.
Although Ooijer-Mathijsen works for now against weak opponents, he should start looking for a new partnership, Heitinga-Bouma worked well, Heitinga-Mathijsen was bad, although it could have been the presence of Timmer in goal at the time. Boulahrouz-Mathijsen was a good one. But Maduro looks as a real possibility as well.
Only i doubt V.Marwijk will form a central partnership with two right-footed players in the back and two right-footed players in front on midfield.
Emanuelson should be further in his development, but i can’t see him succeed any time soon, since he is constantly changing positions and doesn’t really have a clear role on the pitch. When things are good, Urby looks impressive at times, but when things go bad, it’s like Ajax are a man down and he seems to drop shockingly in level.
Elia by far the biggest young talent together with Afellay, Babel and Drenthe clearly made mistakes in their career.
Wijnaldum, Beerens, V.Wolfswinkel, Fer, Biseswar, Amrabat, they’re a big step behind Elia right now.

Wth happen to Wilfred Bouma? he totally disappeared from the national team.

severly broke his leg, I think he is still good enough tomake it when he gets fit

Bouma came back after a year, trained with the Villa first team 2 months ago was named as a sub later but then broke down again. Not sure if he will come back in August ?

I loved Bouma and wish him well in his recovery! But he plays the same position as Gio when in Oranje and I can’t see the skipper losing his spot any time soon!
I would love to see Boula at CB in place of Ooijer!

Why don’t Holland start with Schaar and De Zeeuw in the midfield? Robben on the right, and Elia on the left.

Urby should concentrate as a creative holding mid.that would be a best position for him ,coz this guy is too versatile and skilled.he is not a natural left back and doesnt have physique of a diffender.
Our holding four should be
Schaars
De jong
Mendes da silva
Urby Emmanuelson.
Defininitly as a hold midfeider he is an oranghe material.
next candidates are
Van bommel ,de saaw
if we want to win the cup2010 we should have a mentaly balenced and courageous captain -Schaars is the man for that.
