Twente: Oh.My.Goodness

Twente

FC Twente. The pride of Holland. Great management. Wonderful finances. Tremendous scouting. Attacking football vision. Title winner a season back. Runner up this year. With a number of exciting Dutch players (Brama, Tiendali, Berghuis, Luuk de Jong, Willem Jansen) and a number of great finds for the Dutch eredivisie ( Chadli, Ruiz, Douglas)…

Against

Benfia. Disappointing last year. Good pedigree. No Portuguese players. All nationalities except Portuguese and except Dutch.

But the pride of Holland got beaten by the Portuguese club.

And in humiliating fashion. They were put against the wall from the first minute on and it was 11-0 in goal attempts after 20 minutes. Sickening.

If theit finishing skills were better Twente would have been 5-0 down in the first 25 minutes.

Help!

What was that? Coach Co Adriaanse said they ( Benfica) though quicker and executed faster. That’s a truth. They wanted it more too. Two goals came from set pieces and were horribly defended. But the goals could have come from a normal attacking situation too.

twente benfi

Twente was simply not ready for this. Even Ruiz never looked “in charge”. Cornelissen, Brama, Berghuis, Willem Jansen…. A seize too small for this.

Twente will move a nudge down to Europa League and Ajax will get more cash as they don’t have to share the tv-takings with Twente anymore.

What a dressing down it was.

@ Tiju, respectfully your views on Huntelaar and Elia are clearly from smoking way too much weed. Just kidding – but maybe you’re writing them off way too quick. (I liked the comment about him taking care of his hairstyle – thats clearly true)

Elia hated Hamburg and wanted out and therefore has been playing like a crap crocette. Huntelaar has gone to teams that don’t rely on a centre striker and don’t need to give him service. If he misses a bunch of chances which he will, they otherwise write him off. Things are a bit different at Schalke today.

It’s science…

@ Wissam, i agree Elia would fit in well at Arsenal

Tiju – If you have followed the Elia carreer at Hamburg you must know all the problems he had with the ex coach Armin Veh, this moron destroyed all the work Elia has done in his first season at Hamburg. The problems aren’t on his skills(They are intact), they are on his head, left Hamburg was the better decision for Elia carreer, when him recover his confidence levels you will see how good Elia is! I put him in my line-up because we haven’t another classic winger on this squad, play van Persie and kuyt on the wings is a bad decision. Btw, Elia always played well in the national team!

Oranjerules – Pieters and Wiel, both of them are former centre backs. Anyway, the game is against San Marin, so I cant see any problem with that defense, and it was a good opportunity to try this formation.

@danni i understood that, thats why said elia should go back to the basics, the guy is mentally collapsed.may be due to bitter experience with hamburg…Elia has played some very good matches for us,i dont forget that.
@danni you cannot call back RVN/Gullit or bergkamp.Coz they played great at one point of time.you must look in to form of the player.

About huntlaar my point is he is a great finisher but very static.i am Not happy with his work rate.if we want fo play fluid football we need workrate and ball possessing skills.that is what barca players has, they are having it in abundence.Every barca player are a mix of kuyt and persie.
i think we dont have to worry about our striker postion we are goin to have a prolific hardworking striker is coming up in luc castaginos.
Another one is Luuk dejong,he provides better hardwork and huge physical presence in the box.he can receives the balls in the box,and can easily out muscle the tough defenders. Both persie and hunter cannot do that.
The third option is wolfwinkel, but we should wait for some months.

I only realized Van der Vaart was funny in English when van der Vaart farted on the bench: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0IyzMLkMP0 I know it’s old but it still cracks me up. Crack is not a pun! It’s a terrific drug :)

Has hell frozen over?? In a number of Tiju’s comments, he is speaking positively about Kuyt! Pinch me, I’m dreaming!

Am stoked as tonights Holland game is being shown “live” here :) Although would have preferred a stronger opponent (like Finland)on a Friday Night.
We don’t usually do too well against Minnows. 13-0 maybe expected, but usually it turns out 2/3-0 …lets see as no one is really tested tonight.

Not sure if this mentioned, quite possibly got overlooked in the midst of transfer rumors and news, but…. Douglas has obtained his Dutch passport, and is officially eligible for Oranje national team. Fingers crossed we will see him in the next month qualifier. Hopefully this news lights up a little fire on Bruma’s or Vlaar’s rear.

@Carlos – I agree, Holland will be in control but only score 3 goals and this place will going crazy with negative comments tomorrow. They’ll be calling for BVM’s head and suggest RVP and Kuyt be taken into the streets of Rotterdam and shot on site. Tij will have to be taken into protective custody to prevent him from poking his own eyes out with a rusty butter knife! Oh its gonna be funny!

I’ll be content with a 1-0 victory.

Allthough I do consider a high goaldifference quite important with the current situation in our group (Sweden breathing only 3 points down our neck with a homegame against us left at the end of the qualifying series, meaning all they need is a homewin against us and a better goaldifference to top the group, which means they’re actually in a better position at the moment to qualify directly, obviously they still need to get passed us, so their only advantage is the fact that they’ll be playing at home, but on paper, that’s a better position if you get what I mean to say).

well, not exactly come to think of it, a draw is enough for us, so I guess officially on paper it’s slightly more in our favor, but still, I think it’s dangerously close, anything can still happen (besides, how long has our undefeated status lasted now? sooner or later that run is going to end, that’s a statistical fact, let’s hope it’s a friendly).

Alex, I didn’t any comment about the union of the feminine football league.

I REALLY hope this can work and become in the first step to mix the Belgian a Ducth football leagues in one super league.

A strong “Benelux” league will bring more money for our favorites teams and maybe we can see an Ajax keeping his stars like Barcelona does right now.

Great news! Thanks for this news Alex!

Alex you take comments out of context too much. That or you just aren’t reading carefully enough. Sol wasn’t referring to the SM game when he said it was going to be dangerously close- he was talking about the margin between Sweden and Holland in the standings. Nothing to do with SM whatsoever.

And as to your earlier tirade- when a player gets selected for the NT, he is no longer exempt from criticism, whether he be 19, 22, 28 or 30. If a player (Bruma) has yet to play a good game all season or all of the previous seasons, I’m going to start to wonder what makes him so good. I also recall him looking very shaky in the first U21 game against Ukraine (which got them eliminated.

He has also made nothing but bad career choices (leaving Feyenoord at a very early age for Chelsea, going to HSV?!?!). Then you hear him making comments saying he is at the same level as Heitinga and Mathijsen.

He is still young, especially for a CB, but is one good performance too much to ask for?
