Sir Finn’s tipping competition for us, Oranje fans…

Here’s the Finnster talking to you:

It sounds like you all think I have nothing to do (I wish), but I do spend an enormous amount of time behind computers so I may as well volunteer to run the HUP HOLLAND HUP World Cup tipping competition.
I will have to create a spreadsheet to manage this but that should be no problem. I do that every day
I will also create a new gmail account for people to enter their picks/results directly to me so no “gamesmanship” is going on.
I will post 2 things: The games to predict (in chunks so you don’t have to pick 3 games a day only) so if Jan could provide me with a thread it would make things a little simpler to maintain. Secondly, I will also post regularly an updated league table so you can see how you are doing against your fellow Oranje fans.
The rules are very similar to Carlos: 2 pts for correct result( win/draw) and 1 extra point for correct score. The only difference is that I will designate 1 game in each chunk of the games you pick as a Double Point Game (DPG) where obviously you will get double points (4 for correct result + 2 extra pts for correct score).
So next step is for Jan to create a WC tipping thread (perhaps with this as the initial mail so I don’t have to explain the rules again) CHECK and me to create a new gmail account and then you guys can send me an email to join and also with your picks.
The winner will be entitled to be addressed as Sir until October 1st (just so we can can all call him/her a bastard when our fav teams aren’t doing too good)

I’m game, finn. Would be fun.

@Carlos: hey buddy, I’m in India and won’t be getting the Mexico match. You got to make sure that I get to watch it, Veetle or whatever. :)

i hope hope that Holland will do well in the world cup.
the team is full of attacking talents but the defensive side is a bit lacking. the coach must try to play more defensive if the team can win the cup.

Thank you Finnster

A couple people asked on the last thread where I am from. I was born in Canada and have lived in Canada my whole life. My mom’s last name is Sonneveld, her parents emigrated here during the war.

Jad I am guessing that the friendly is not a part of the competition.

Vlaar has pulled something and it could be the end of his World Cup. If he can’t get some minutes in at the next friendly then he will probably be cut for Ooijer.

Seems like BvM wants to do a final test with Braafheid, Schaars, Boulahrouz and Affelay against Mexico. Probable line-up:
Stekelenburg
Boulah Heitinga Mathijsen Braafheid
De Jong Schaars
Afellay
Kuyt Vd Vaart
V. Persie

Apparently Vlaar stretched his hamstring and has been playing poorly in comparison to the rest of the squad? Yikes, does that mean that both are back-up CB’s are shite (Ooijer + Vlaar)? Makes you wonder why Maduro did not get his chance if this is the case. Can Schaars play CB? lol.

Hi Tobias, I think the Dutch think differently. If your defense isn’t strong you mustn’t play defensively but offensively to keep pressure off….

Makes sense :-) ?

So Finn, do we need to wait for the gmail thing to happen? Till then we don’t do anything right?

Lads, sorry being a tad late as the market is crashing again and I will be eating crow again for dinner tonight…

But here is the email to post your picks and scores: wchupholland@gmail.com

I will post the first chunk of games to pick shortly. Until then, hold your horses, and watch this thread.

And yes, no friendlies applies. In case things are still unclear, we are doing the real WC thing only (and for ALL games, not just Oranje). First lot coming shortly.

OK Ladies & Gents, Here is the first chunk of games to pick correct scores for. It is all the first games from each group. DPG means Double Point Game, so this game counts double in the standings. (To enter just cut and paste the below, type in the score after each match listing and email your answer to wchupholland@gmail.com). I will post updated league tables on this thread after each round of games. OK, here we go and good luck all!!:

South Africa vs. Mexico
Uruguay vs. France
Korea Republic vs. Greece
Argentina vs. Nigeria
England vs. USA
Algeria vs. Slovenia
Serbia vs. Ghana
Germany vs. Australia
Netherlands vs. Denmark
Japan vs. Cameroon
Italy vs. Paraguay DPG!!
New Zealand vs. Slovakia
Ivory Coast vs. Portugal
Brazil vs. North Korea
Honduras vs. Chile
Spain vs. Switzerland

Don’t forget to send your picks (wchupholland@gmail.com).

We have 3 entries already.

Keep ‘em coming

Hey guys,

Don’t forget the WC tipping. I have 4 entries already but need loads more. Just cut and paste from the matches above and ship to the email provided and you are good to go.

It will take you 3 mins max.

Now we are up to 5.

That is nothing. If we can post 235+ messages on a meaningless friendly against Mexico, I am sure you can find 5 minutes to send in your picks for this competition and bragging rights.

Send them in lads & lassies

OK, Time to sign up fellas.

You are asking me to run a pool on top of everything else that I do, and now that I have set everything up nobody seems to want to join? What is up with that? I have 5 people so far. Surely we can do better than that.

Scroll back up, cut & paste the games, predict the scores and send it to the email provided. How hard is that? I mean Tiju has produced more Oranje lineups the last 6 months on a weekly basis than people in the tipping competition. That is not right. So come on and join everyone!!! And we’ll see who has the superior soccer brain on here (and a bunch of luck on top)

Maybe no one reads this thread anymore?
maybe people need to be reminded on the newer threads?
i will put a note there…

i was confused when i started reading these posts because i didnt realize that no one really checks the older posts…

Bump.

We are getting there, but need more people. Where are the local heros such as Jan, Tiju, Carlos, Caleb, M-O, Mario, Alex, Sol, Goose etc.

You can all talk about lineups, but how about showing your skills in picking the right scores and show off how much you really know about football/soccer :-)

Well, I was planning to send mine in a little closer to the day, but I probably won’t know any better for most of the games anyways, so I sent mine in justnow. May the best (luckiest) man/woman win!

P.S. in case you guys don’t know, I’m officially the reigning champ here at the blog since I won the blog’s fantasy competition during the Euros (although there were only about 10 people competing then I believe…). I didn’t get anything fancy like a “Sir” added to my name though! Think you can beat me?? (Probably you can, lol) :-)

We should at least get to 20, so come on and join us lads. So far I have the following signed up:

Steve
Finn
Jake
Dave
Jad
Sonneveld
Abhirup
Ferenc
Fred
Caleb
