Increasing Oranje madness and birth-wave in 9 months!

ugly

If Holland wins against Brazil and reaches the semis, the Oranje madness in the Netherlands will skyrocket. This is the conclusion of mass psychologist Hans van de Sande of the Rijksuniversiteit in Groningen.

“It’s a simple human mechanism. If the carrot is getting closer and closer, we will pull on it more to actually get it.”

And that feeling of experiencing it together makes that feeling stronger. “It does feel pathetic to watch football alone and cheer and jump all by yourself. When you do it with a group – in the pub for instance – you get that feeling of strength, unity and confidence.”

ugly2

The Oranje madness stems from the 1960s, Van de Sande explains. “It were the victorious adventures of skaters Ard Schenk and Kees Verkerk who first got the Dutch fans to rip out of their panties. In the early 1970s, the successes of Feyenoord and Ajax followed and in 1974 we got that huge National Pride with Total Football of Oranje. Football took over from skating because the ten kilometer race is basically boring.”

And therefore, the Legion decided to turn sports into some Orange Carnival, with outfits and music and big bottles of alcohol. “And by then the international media picked it up and it became something that we wanted to keep alive. Part of our identity. Most fans in the stadiums in South Africa don’t follow a certain club like they do Oranje and half the fans wouldn’t know what off-side is…”

ugly3

“We can even expect a birth-wave if Holland beats Brazil. Typical for men, is that such a victory results in testosteron and men want to multiply.”

In case of a defeat, the feeling will disappear in two days. “The Dutch need those two days, one day to mourn and a second day to get rid of the orange shit.”

HelloOoOo Awesome people :D

i’m expecting a very tough game against Uruguay .
Well , reaching the semi’s is the biggest dream for Uruguay , so if we score first they won’t struggle a lot .. We can score the 2nd , the 3rd and even the 4th goal ..
The big problem is if they score first .. they will stop the bus play with the form 8-1-1 .. And it will be almost impossible to score a goal .. We have to be very cautious !
Forlan should be marked by Bommel .. He is one of the best players in the tournament so far
I can’t belive we have only 2 games to make it …
2 other games to glorify our all time legand .. Cruyff .
2 other games to put the first star on the Oranje Jersey ..

btw guys , why vaart is suddenly benched for 2 games in a row ? He should play in our next game i think .

@Mohamed

because Vaart is not effective on the left wing and Kuyt is. I don’t think we should make any other changes. Only bring in Elia in the 65th minute if we need more attacking impulse and little defense.

despite the win i still feel van der varrt shoul play at left wing instead of kuyt

its sad that such a inferior player starts instead of abetter player

That is why you are sad.

Because you have no football to watch anymore but only a very sad and useless Maradona in press conferences to look at. You obviously have not watched any Holland matches this tournament or you need new glasses or a bit of both.

Kuyt has been a star.

on the left flank kuyt is more useful than vdv. vdv’s problem is that he can only perform at his level in sneijder’s position, and sneijder is better than him. this is not the first time in football history: mazzola and rivera, netzer and overath together were too much on the field. or more recently: gerrard and lampard. it’s bad for vdv,but the reality is that team is balanced and works without him as a starter.

I have heard that Mathijsen is going to play. As for Kuyt vs. van der vaart, forget it: Kuyt plays the wing–either side–extremely effectively, while VDV is simply not a winger at all. With Robben’s return he has been forced to the bench.

As for Germany and Spain, they play such different styles. Spain is all ball control–keep away–and trying to sneak a striker past the back line, whereas Germany have been strong in open-field counter attackers; all their front people seem on the same page. We’ll concentrate on Uruguay and let them decide the other half.

There was a rumour going round that Real Madrid’s offer for Tevez included VdV in part ex… given that I don’t think Tevez’s heart is at City now, it’d be a better deal than the Balotelli Inter swap, VdV can be the central midfield creator City just didn’t have last season with Ireland going AWOL. VdV is very talented, he needs to be the fulcrum of a club team and not on the margins like he is at Holland. I’m nott sure Tevez will be motivated to get nearly 30 goals next season.

BTW, with no football to watch tonight, I went on one of those download sites and watched the full match of Holland 2 West Germany 2 from 1978. I never saw this full match before, I was 8 years old and sent to bed at half time, it was a schoolday next day lol. But watching a full match of Johnny Rep again – at 8 years old you don’t get the nuances of a player’s style, I just remember thinking he looked cool! – I’m struck by the similarities between him and Robben. His speed, his running at players like Manny Kaltz, his turning and coming inside from either wing, and his ability to strike one hell of a shot.
Do any of the other current players really remind you of Oranje stars of the past?

Bizarrely, Tevez has just announced that Germany and Holland have ‘no top players’.
If Holland win, there’s a case for making Sneijder the FIFA World Player of the Year. And Robben’s play would make him a pin-up for any young football fan. I really do wonder about Carlitos’ outbursts sometimes (though I agree to a point with his view of Mancini).

Good morning or Good evening lovely people of this blog:):)
lovely days reading and watching everything around about our oranje. I am so excited and nervous at the same time, I am only thinking about the semifinal and then hopefully we will be thinking and worrying about johannesburg game in june 11th.

surprisingly and I am so disgusted with all those anaylsts who think they know about football, all of them no exception when asked who will win the world cup they answer germany or spain, they don’t even mention netherlands, but then I get more optimistic because those same people expected a win for brazil against the oranje and we all know how that went ;) . let them keep ignoring the oranje and disrespecting them, it is better and it takes the pressure away!!!

Ferenc – Good point on VdV Kuyt and Sneijder…agree that Sneider VdV too similar , big differene is Sneijder is 2 footed, makes a hell of a difference that half a second VdV needs to get the ball on his left foot. Sneijders first goal against Brazil was left footed!

I read somewhere that Real Madrid wants to make a move on Van Persie…

But anyway :-)

I agree: let’s talk about the finals AFTER the semis!!! We need to win vs Uruguay and in 1992 we made this mistake too, remember?

It’s hard to see Bert making any changes except for Boulahrouz and De Zeeuw. In fact, knowing Bert, I’d be astounded if he did. I think he could make some cool subs, though. How about in the second half Van der Vaart for de Zeeuw, Huntelaar for Robben and put van Persie on the wing and Elia for Kuyt. That we could start strong, wear Uruguay out and still finish with a lightning attack. so the end of the match would look like this:

Huntelaar
Elia, Sneijder, v.Persie
vd.Vaart, v.Bommel

By the way, I don’t think the team is going to underestimate Uruguay at all because Bert won’t let them. They will come out really focused.

Interesting factoid: Pablo Forlan, father of Diego Forlan played in Uruguay/Holland 1974 at centre-back and was booked during the match which Holland won 2-0 thanks to 2 goals from Johnny Rep. Uruguay’s defense had quite a rough time of it that afternoon. Here is a nice highlight reel of the match. Forlan is the Uruguay #4 in central defense. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5YLG57a2GE

Gerry – I like that idea – once we are 2-0 up, then it could become 5-0. But lets get there first. BVM will stay sober and say to them “Guys we aint got Nuthhin yet !!!”
For those who recorded the game here are a couple of points worth watching again – When Sneijder heads the ball in – watch Ooier imitate him exactly at the same time as if to say “Like this !”
Also Gio is a quiet captain but watch how he pulls Sneijder/de Jong away from Melo as if to say – “Forget him – get away & get on with the game – we’re gonna win this !”

Ha Johnny, I was watching a replay of the Uruguay Ghana match and they mentioned that. And Diego’s grandfather I think coached the national team at one point. Also, I too was watching that 74 match earlier, except the version I found was in Spanish, it was also about 17minutes in total. It just showed that we had a ton of scoring chances, and it had some more beautiful offside traps.

I know we beat Brazil – in ‘74 they also wore blue :) . But still my favourite Brazil team is the ‘82 team that had all style and Samba…..but no glory.
Here they are ;

According to Steve Burns, who has an excellent site on Holland’s ‘74 and ‘78 World Cup teams (detailed match summaries, backstories, sidestories, etc.) Pablo Forlan nearly knocked Johan Neeskens cold with a kick to the head. http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~goldkeep/Holland74/Uruguay.htm

@Carlos – thanks for the video on the ‘82 Brazil team. I’d never seen them before, just heard about them. Very nice football and goals. Another team like the ’70’s Dutch team to play fantastic football but not win the prize…
