Ajax among the top suppliers for the World Cup

ajax

Ajax made the top five of clubs supplying the World Cup with players. Chelsea is the leader of this little competition with seventeen players. Barcelona has fourteen players on their way to South Africa, while Liverpool and Real Madrid are number 3 and 4.

Ajax shares the fifth spot with Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur. These clubs supply eleven players. Not a bad list to be part of.

The Sons of Gods supply Maarten Stekelenburg, Gregory van der Wiel, Demy de Zeeuw, Vurnon Anita (all Holland), Luis Suarez, Nicolas Lodeiro (both Uruguay), Christian Eriksen, Dennis Rommedahl (both Denmark), Eyong Enoh (Cameroon), Miralem Sulejmani and Marko Pantelic (both Serbia).

The Dutch Eredivisie has the sixth spot on the list of supplying competitions. England is number one with 138 player, Germany second (94), Italy third with 93 players followed by Spain (73) and France (58). Holland has 47 players in the competition with a ticket to the World Cup.

Ibra is completely an Ajax player. We developed him since the age of 16. I agree with Jeroen’s lineup, except Elia. That’s a bit of a stretch, he left when he was 14 or so.

My line up:

Stek
VD Wiel Vermaelen Heitinga Chivu
De Jong
Sneijder VdV
Ibra Suarez Huntelaar

@Sonneveld, you must make a new Robben video. That combines the first one. The first one is so good, and will now be even better will his play in the 2nd half of the season. Love your videos!

@ Rijhan van hessilbaink :
i think Sno is supposed to be back to Ajax in the next season , however , i agree with Paul ! He’s not that kinda player who you can expect a lot from him .
Actually I’d like to see Drenthe in Ajax in the next season , he , aside with Urby , can make a tremedous left flank for ajax in the next season .
I hope Ajax can buy dutch players who suffer with their clubs .. Boulahrouz , drenthe , donk , zuiverloon , emnes and even Huntelaar
___________Steklenburg_________
_________Boulahrouz , Donk____
Weil ______________________ Anita
______de zeeuw , drenthe______
emnes ____ s.de jong ____ urby
_____huntelaar / suarez_______

this team can go far in the CL !

Born in 1981, he joined Ajax in 2000/01 season making him 19? He had already 40 caps for Malmö so again I don’t think we can consider him an Ajax Youth product.

Holland odds for winning the Cup have narrowed to 11-1 from 14-1. Spain is favourite. We were favourites in 1990 too.

@ Muhamed

Thanks for the info on Sno.

Do you think Anita should be chosen ahead of Braafheid. I think that Anita is nt proven as a defender. He is realy a midfielder, this season is his first season as a defender, and Jol has refused to use him at leftback on a number of occasions in the big Europa League games this season, namely in the Juventus games.

@ Carlos ,
this means nothing in my opinion carlos ,
as you said , we were the favourites in wc ‘90 and we did nothing , also i think we weren’t from the top favourites either in EC ‘88 or in WC ‘98 .

I’ve seen Anita only once Rijhan , and he was good . However , one time isn’t enough to judge .
Marwijk says that he impressed in the training , so most probably he’ll go to SA .
i’m waiting for our game against Mexico to watch him again closely ..
Anyway , neither brafhied nor anita will play a big role in SA . May be only ten minutes against japan or cameroon . Gio will start all of our games . We’re lucky he isn’t an injury-prone !

I wasn’t aware of that age, but he still joined early.

Ibra didn’t come to Ajax at 16! He played for the Swedish team already when he was still in Sweden!

De Zeeuw did not come from the Ajax youth system but the Go Ahead System. There’s a lot of confusion out there about all this.

Ajax does deliver many many players to the Eredivisie – not necessarily at Ajax.

Huntelaar is a PSV product. Sent away by Hiddink and came back to Ajax via AGOVV and Heerenveen. Most certainly not an Ajax product.

Suarez was scouted by Groningen.

Youth development is not just youth coaching but also scouting. I believe Ajax lost it there. Not in their youth development as such.

Ajax became arrogant and felt that “talent wants to play for Ajax anyway”.

This is the basis of Cruyff’s years long criticism on the club.

Mohamed – thats exactly why I mentioned 1990 – We were favourites after winneing the Euros (like Spain) and did nothing. I have said it before 1990 was a WC to be forgotten especially the final.

Concerning the problems that Oranje has with reserve players on the left and right back positions, what ever happened to Zuiverloon? Is Anita better then Urby in the left back position? I dont see any Ajax games anymore since living in Brazil, so I can’t judge. Last year, I thought Braafheid looked like a good player, is his form that poor this year? …. whatever the case… I still think that if Oranje can stick together and not brain fart mentally at the latter stages.. we can go far… I mean winning far!! Hup Holland.

Mohamed great point, Gio will play all the important games at South africa. But do think that erik Pieters from PSV would have been a better choise than Anita. He has much more experience and he has had a good season, also, he is the captain and first choice at left back for our under 21 team.
Carlos can you comment on this also.

@ Jaochim Braafheid has had a challenging time at celtic on loan. However, it has more to do with problems with the manager and not his personal form. Hwoever, he is still a good leftback and he can be useful for us at SA if he regains his confidence. Also, zuiverloon is mainly a rightback, who plays in the english championshp with West Brom, so no chance of him going to SA.

@Carlos and kyle what do you guys think the best linup for the three attacking players behind van persie. I would love to see a linup with Elia, Sneijder, Robben. Or Seijder, van der vaart, Robben. What do you think.

@Rijhan: Championship is much higher quality than Scottish Premier League. At least Zuiverloon didn’t lose to Ross County. The SPL is a complete joke.

I like Zuiverloon and he could have made into the team if he’d left WBA to play for an EPL team…

WBA is now an EPL team – not sure if Zuiverloon (one of my fav) would have been able to dislodge vdW, Heitinga, Boulah – but IF is that word again :) .

Rijhan – I dont do line ups that much ! I think Kuyt belongs there, but I also like the VdV/Elia options on either left or right. It seriously depend on who we are playing. The rest of the team picks itself.

Gio not injury prone??? actually, i can’t think of a season where he’s had more aches, pains and little injuries.
Braafheid has become victim of loss of confidence, he could be a usefull LB for Bayern and us, but at the moment he needs confidence to play better.

Zuiverloon still has talent, but for soem reason his defensive play has worsened at WBA instead of improved. He looked better purely defending when he first came there. Might be a latebloomer though, I don’t write defenders off until they’re like 26.
I actually thought V.d.Wiel and him woudl be battling it out for the regular spot in oranje by now.
I don’t know about Anita, all the experts seem to think he’s not good enough, but he might surprise. I think they could possibly take both Anita and Braafheid, to fill 8 defensive positions.
My preference then would be Ooijer out.

Gio-Mathijsen-Heitinga-V.d.Wiel
Braafheid-Vlaar-Boulahrouz-Anita

Alex great point about the fitness of Gio, i was a little worried about that.
On the whole Anita Situration though, I am still very surprised that Van Marwijk choose him over Erik Pieters.

@Alex I have watched quite a bit Zuiverloon’s games at Wes Brom this season and he is truely strongling to form his great old form. I think the he needs to regain his form for next season in the premier League.
However, he still not an option at leftback, that is the position we will need to bulter after the world cup when Gio retires. Maybe Drenthe will go to Juvetus and develop at the leftback position, but for now i definately think that Pieters is our best replacement for Gio not Braffheid or Anita.

Does anyone think that:

Hedwiges Maduro will become a good central defender?

Donk will return to Holland this season?

De Guzman will join a big European team this season?
