I hate a lone striker system. Goals never come in handy. Always difficult to score unless you have a very effective and productive midfield like Spain. Italy has a lone striker Luca Toni, and although the best scorer in Bayern Munchen, he had no goals in the EC. Fernando Torres was only able to produce two goals in the EC. I rather have two srikers for the new Dutch team with Huntelaar and Van Persie. By the way, how come all the proposed lineups have no Dirk Kuyt?He is so underestimated, yet he he is selfless and the hardest working man. Most of the 33 goals of Torres at Liverpool came from Kuyt. Also in the game against Italy he had 2 assists. So don’t write him off yet. But our weakness is still the defense, we need to get those guys up to speed, and have a backline similar to that of the Azurri. Our guys are so young and inexperienced, and I am afraid that WC2010 will be the same old same story.

Jan’s team is too old and slow, Tim’s team is just not good enough, Michael-Oliver’s team is too untested and speculative. How about this team?

Not in love with that back 4 but obvioulsy that’s the hard part when making out these lineups. Would love to move Boulah and ooijer out, but for who? Zuiverloon completely untested, Donk, Marcellis have shown great promise, but that’s about it so far. De Cler? Not really. Mathijsen is invisible, Gio will be too old….

2 years is enough to develop. they just need experience in the senior squad.
Emanuelson, Drenthe, and Zuiverloon are ready. Pieters and Marcellis need another year.

Not sure about youre defence, you cant really say how Vlaar is going to develop, i’d say Boulahrouz-Heitinga would be a hell of a central defence, But who knows with talents like Vlaar, Donk and Marcellis,
Emanuelson and Drenthe might not be the best choice for the WC, Emanuelson still lacks real defensive quality, altough he could be worldclass by 2010, and Drenthe still feels better as a left wing attacker.
Perhaps Bouma or De Cler on leftback if Emanuelson/Drenthe or even Pieters haven’t (yet) developed enough by then.

I read that Sneijder is being nominated as player of the tournament.
Well it is qualified that the winner usually comes from the Winning team.

Good ole Wes says he would trade the honourable mention or the award for a trip through the canals of Amsterdam with his team mates.

At the WC most of these guys will be 25-28 which is an ideal age for football. But then wasn’t Arnold Muhren ( he of the gifted left foot) 37 when he played in the final ?
