You sometimes see great club players in the Dutch subtop but they just can't cut it at the top. Examples are most of the AZ players (Schaars, Martens, Jenner), some even claim Kromkamp, Matijsen, Bouma, Ooijer those kinds of players. The jury is still out on Engelaar. He didn't make it at Feyenoord (which doesn't tell us a lot of course; Huntelaar "failed" at PSV) and he is the boss on the Twente midfield, but will he be able to play like that in Oranje? He sees the game well, he is strong in the personal duels, he is mentally strong and has a good through ball. But every player claims that the step from Twente to the Dutch top 3 is huge and then the next step up is Oranje, where everything is executed even faster. If he can't cope with the pace and pressure in Oranje (Van Basten should be able to tell in two or three days) you need to ax him, I guess. It's too late to take "unproven" players, I guess.
