International Press: Oranje demonstrates power

June 18th, 2008 | By: Jan | No Comments »

The international press praises the Dutch for taking their responsibility against Romania and keeping on winning. The Italians thanks Oranje.

Bild: “Even playing the second-tier players, Holland can’t be beaten. The work ethics and mentality of the Dutch should be praised. Apart from being a wonderful football machine, Holland plays and works like a team. All rumours and suspicions can be put aside. Holland didn’t cheat.”

The Italian Gazzetta dello Sport watched Holland impress again. “This time, the genius was a 24 year old striker with the looks of a kid: Klaas Jan Huntelaar. He is very welcome to spend his holidays in Italy. Thank you to the Ajax striker and thank you Van Persie. Italy is through.”

The French L’Equipe focuses more on Romania. “The Romanian team didn’t have the belief and the passion to get Oranje in trouble. The Romanians took a beating. Oranje must have felt they were on training.”

The Daily Telegraph praises the Dutch integrity by overpowering Romania. “There was some suspicion that Holland would oust both Italy and France, but the Dutch again gave a demonstration of their power.”
