Fave Future Player: Ibrahim Afellay

The Master and the Apprentice?
The voting has died down. A tad disappointing in numbers, but it seems most of the foreign fans haven’t seen many of the youngster play and refrained from voting. Fair enough, of course!
But we did end with a good result, with mostly usual suspects and a couple of left field choices. I like that. Who would have thought for instance that young Phillip Cocu of AZ would make it big? Or young Jaap Stam at FC Zwolle? Or young Marc Overmars of Go Ahead Eagles? Or that lanky striker from FC Den Bosch, eh…Ruud van Nistelrode?
That’s right! In six years time, Oranje will be made up half of players we haven’t even considered.
These are the results:
Afellay 42 points (no contest)
Drenthe 30 points
Babel 20 points
Marcellis 11 points
Bruins 8 points
Donk 7 points
De Jong 7 points
Krul 5 points
De Ridder 5 points
Maduro 3 points
Castillion 3 points
Barazite 1 point
De Guzman 1 point
Velthuizen 1 point
It seems fair to say the Orange future looks bright. Apart from these boys, we still have Greg van der Wiel, Slory, Vlaar, Stijn Schaars, Demy de Zeeuw, Huntelaar, Sneijder, Van Persie and many other young players emerging.
I wouldn’t be too worried (IF these boys keep on developing of course):
Velthuizen
Heitinga Donk Marcellis Drenthe
Sneijder Maduro
Van Persie Afellay Bruins
Huntelaar
Enjoy this Afellay clip every one.

A name just sprung to mind Jan - how’s Gianni Zuiverloon been doing this season?
Posted from
Japan

Zuiverloon… Still a promising player, I think.
Came through Feyenoord’s strong youth development system, but couldn’t make the last leap into Feyenoord 1. Has been playing for some time in the lower regions of the Dutch Eredivisie and is currently making an impact as full back at Heerenveen. I believe he still is promising and still has tremendous games, but Zuiverloon sometimes isn’t concentrated enough. On top level, that means pushing the door wide open for the opponent. And, he seems to be a bit rash in his challenging, making him the record card collector this season.
If he can focus more and contain himself, he could surely move up a couple of notches…
