michels. it’s evident. he revolutionized the football. football was played in a different way before him. he’s all-time greatest coach. without any doubt. he invented a syle. he was the beginning of modern football.
period. for me hiddibk is the second,happel is the third and rijkaard is the fourth.
marco is controversial,he might become a great coach,he has learned a lot,but he still is not at the level of the other four.

Van Basten – I think you’re missing the point of the poll here… it’s not to vote for who you like or who is the best coach besides Michels, Cruijff, Hiddink and Rikjaard, it’s to vote for the best coach. Period. I like Van Basten and I think he has a future ahead of him if he keeps learning, but we are voting for the best coach here, not giving votes to other coaches because we respect them, or want them to have some votes even though we don’t think they are number one.

On that note, I wonder if Hiddink might be a good addition to the coaching staff beside Michels, for ego managing/psychological reasons. But I wonder if he could have the same effect as an assistant coach?

I’m a big Happel fan, but he’s not a good choice, since he is dead… No, just kiddin… But I do feel he wouldn’t be successful in todays game, or better: with today’s players. I was never a Michels fan. I think JC was responsible for Total Football and Michels blocked JC’s managership for Oranje in 1990 and instead gave us Ramblin’ Leo…

Rijkaard and Van Basten would be good, but I do feel Guus has the best personality to work with all these egos. Can you imagine: De Boer, Davids, Cruyff, Bergkamp, Van Basten, Gullit in one team??
