What is this….some sort of shambles!!!!Marco Van Basten has no votes???
I mean…Incredible!!!I know Rinus Michels was voted the coach of the 20th century by FIFA,I am also aware of Cruiff and Riijkard’s achievements at Barcelona by winning the Champions League, and I know that Hiddink is the the best international coach of the past 2 decades, but common it is pure injustice if Van Basten is not given any votes. I mean, he beat Italy 3:0, something that Rinus Michels, Rijkaard…could not do, an no other Dutch coach has achieved in the past 30 years. He has created a 21st Century Total Football that was hailed worldwide as a fine masterpiece, so Van Basten deserves some votes…He many not be the best coach of the bunch because he has no silverware,yet, but I hope you are all appreciative of what he has done for this Oranje by injecting new talented players into the squad, and rejuvenating the team.
Other than the legend Michel Rinus, Van Basten gets my unanimous vote, and I give him my vote, and thank him for he has done, and best of luck at Ajax!He will prove all of you guys wrong one day by bringing three consecutive Champions League title to Ajax, and a World Cup and Euro Cup!
Go Van Basten…Hup Van Basten, Hup Hup!
Van Basten For Ever!

Think should consider Rijkaard for the coach job too. He did a great job at Barcelona. But wait a minute, Rijkaard was coach for ORANJIE before, right?

@kmhui,

Rijkaard has never coached Oranje, but I am guessing he or Gullit will be considered (to complete Milan’s “3 Flying Dutchmen” as the national team’s coach). I also think he’s solid and will be the type of coach who’ll command respect of players since he was a winner before, well, not unlike MvB. Another ex Oranje that I’d like to see coaching in the future is Frank de Boer or Denis Bergkamp (can be problematic since he doesn’t fly).

Back to the thread, I’ll have to go with the father of Total Football, Michel …. who am I to argue against FIFA’s selection of “Coach of the Century”?

van Basten boy…Marco still is in the learning curve. He is not at the level of coaches such as Michels, van Gaal, Rijkaard, Cruyff or Hiddink.

He still has so much to learn but perhaps he is better than Joachim Low, hehehe.

@Michel-Olivier/kmhui,

I stand corrected by Michel-Olivier ….. he did coach us in EURO 2000 (*slapping head* how can I forget?). I guess I was mistaken since it’s still a personal mystery to me why he abruptly left after the tourney. We did lose in PKs that year, but that was one of the best Oranje squad post 1988.

Sorry for the mis-information.

Well it’s an undisputable fact that Rinus Michels “The General” is the Greatest Coach of All-Time, not just for Oranje, in the history of Football. The poll results also show that he is ahead by a huge margin!
So,hands down he wins!The question is who is the best second coach?
Amazingly, Holland has produced Great Football, Great Players, Great Coaches, Great Fans…But,But,But…We have yet to win a World Cup!And even Michel Rinus could not deliver a World Cup for Oranje, regardless of his other achievements(Euro88).

I’m a big Happel fan, but he’s not a good choice, since he is dead… No, just kiddin… But I do feel he wouldn’t be successful in todays game, or better: with today’s players. I was never a Michels fan. I think JC was responsible for Total Football and Michels blocked JC’s managership for Oranje in 1990 and instead gave us Ramblin’ Leo…

Rijkaard and Van Basten would be good, but I do feel Guus has the best personality to work with all these egos. Can you imagine: De Boer, Davids, Cruyff, Bergkamp, Van Basten, Gullit in one team??

Advocaat! I mean, Michels of course ;-)

Van Basten – I think you’re missing the point of the poll here… it’s not to vote for who you like or who is the best coach besides Michels, Cruijff, Hiddink and Rikjaard, it’s to vote for the best coach. Period. I like Van Basten and I think he has a future ahead of him if he keeps learning, but we are voting for the best coach here, not giving votes to other coaches because we respect them, or want them to have some votes even though we don’t think they are number one.

On that note, I wonder if Hiddink might be a good addition to the coaching staff beside Michels, for ego managing/psychological reasons. But I wonder if he could have the same effect as an assistant coach?

michels. it’s evident. he revolutionized the football. football was played in a different way before him. he’s all-time greatest coach. without any doubt. he invented a syle. he was the beginning of modern football.
period. for me hiddibk is the second,happel is the third and rijkaard is the fourth.
marco is controversial,he might become a great coach,he has learned a lot,but he still is not at the level of the other four.
