PSV grabs fourth title in a row!
No dramatic surprise finish this year. PSV did what it had to do. It won, 1-0, against Vitesse thanls to a Lazovic goal and snatched the title again.
Sef Vergoossen: “It wasn’t a great match, but we did it. We won. There was quite some pressure on the players but I think we deserve the title. We do have the most points and we did best in the big matches in the competition, so…”
Goalie Gomes, without whom PSV wouldn’t have won the title: “It’s the players’ championship, what with all the humbug this season.”
Gomes’ performance didn’t stay unnoticed in the Mecca of pro football; Tottenham Hotspur has openly admitted to be interested in signing the Brazilian spiderman.
Sef Vergoossen is happy it’s all over. “Now I can finally decide what to do with my retirerment. Whether I’ll do some things for PSV in scouting or help FC Limburg come into existence, I don’t know. I’ll see. But this was my last job as head coach.”
Ibrahim Afellay: “I will party hard tonight. This is justice. We are the best. In Amsterdam, they talk a lot but couldn’t bring home the bacon.”

Ajax waiting for the end result of PSV - Vitesse
Danny Koevermans couldn’t resist calling former team mate Kenneth Perez. The Danish international moved from Ajax to PSV last summer, only to return in the winter. Perez lost out on the title. Koevermans dialed Perez’ cell phone and the whole PSV group sang: “Kenneth bedankt!” (Thanks Kenneth). Football humor.
Perez: “I don’t feel like I won a bit of the title. I just lost the title. And this prank? It’s fun. They obviously didn’t forget me. And I am happy for my former team mates that they won, no hard feelings.”
Koevermans stated that he isn’t interested in leaving PSV. Both Ajax and Feyenoord have shown interest in the striker. “I don’t know, you know. I am happy here at PSV. As far as I’m concerned, I’ll stay.”
Ajax did what it had to do against Heracles. An early Suarez goal opened the tab, with Perez scoring twice, one traditional Huntelaar goal and a farewell goal by Heitinga, who’ll move to Atletico Madrid this summer. The Ajax team desperately tried to help Huntelaar to score more (for the Golden Boot) but it wasn’t to be.
Feyenoord got applause against Roda in De Kuip, after their 3-0 win (goals Bruins, Sahin and Mols) but Twente and Heerenveen didn’t make a mistake so Van Marwijk’s team is out of the play offs. The future Oranje manager: “We failed. It’s easy…we didn’t make it. I don’t know where it went wrong exactly, but it did. We spilled too much points, we didn’t play aggressive enough… We just couldn’t cut it. Disappointing.”
Of course, Feyenoord can still win a prize (Dutch National Cup) and qualify for UEFA Cup football, but Van Marwijk seriously wanted to go for the title and he wanted to perform better.
Heerenveen beat Excelsior 5-0, Twente beat Willem II 2-0 and NEC won the away game against NAC Breda. Van Gaal’s AZ won again vs Sparta Rotterdam.
Twente coach Fred Rutten will move to Schalke 04. He signed a contract for several seasons. Youri Mulder, former Schalke, Twente and Oranje striker, is named as one of his assistants.

Bert is not happy, and niether am I. Feyenoord choked, plain and simple.

I do agree, but…
In defense of Feyenoord…
They didn’t have a balanced group. Makaay as the only striker and 37 year old Mols as his understudy. Some young talents (De Guzman, Bruins, Slory), some older hands (Gio, Landzaat, Hofland)… Lots of injuries (Makaay, Slory, Vincken, Hofland, Greene). And some bad luck (the Sparta game to name one).
But having said that: the Cup is still for grabs, which is a major prize and thus UEFA Cup football is still on the cards…
Still better than last three seasons…
With Verbeek and maybe three good signings Feyenoord can recover.
