Play Offs in Dutch Eredivisie and other news…

ajax.jpg

Quickly some results from the Dutch Play Offs:

Mario Been’s NEC defeated Roda JC in their first match and NEC has good chances to go to the finals to secure the UEFA CUp ticket.

Groningen and Utrecht played 2-2 in the Utrecht stadium.

Ajax won away against Heerenveen 2-1 but should have made at least two goals extra. With Heerenveen travelling to Amsterdam, the finals for the CL ticket are in reach (Twente won against NAC 3-0 and will most certainly be the other finalist).

Ruud van Nistelrooy is ready to play in Real Madrid’s championship game, this weekend.

Martin Jol can start in the German Bundesliga. Both HSV Hamburg and Borussia Dortmund want to sign the former Spurs manager.

A silly internet blog entry by Frank Rijkaard’s mental coach Jill van Eyle gave the world a scoop. She wrote: my work at Barcelona will stop in the next couple of weeks, since Frank Rijkaard will resign this summer….

You read it here first :-)

Euthanized :-) ? As in “killed”?

Jan: frankie said that hadn’t told this to jill van eyle. but i think he will go. in the spanish press i read that cruijff would prefer laudrup and guardiola as his assistant. other rumours – players might become blaugrana in the summer – van der vaart, huntelaar, daniel alves… and many others, but these 3 names are more and more often in the news. is anything about them (especially vdv and huntelaar) in the dutch press? i mean about their probable transfer to barca.

Yes, Jan, sadly euthanized means to humanely kill an animal. The horse broke both of her right ankles, a very painful injury and one for which there is no treatment. This is the second Kentucky Derby in three years when a thoroughbred horse has died as a result of an injury occurring during the race. I live near a well known horse track in upstate New York, located in the city of Saratoga Springs, which hosts a major thoroughbred “season” from mid-July to early September. I refuse to attend any of its events because I believe, as do many, many others, that American horse owners race horses much too young. They start them as 2 year olds, which means they could be literally only a year old when the racing regimen begins. I believe their bones are not fully formed and should not be raced until they reach the age of 4. One of the arguments used, you might be interested to know, is the example of the Australian racing organization. The Aussies love horse racing as well, but apparently do not allow any horse to be raced until at least the age of 4, when they are fully grown and developed. The racing “game” is another example of owners wanting to make as much money as they can by racing their horses as youngsters, then if they win putting them out to stud and receive millions of dollars in breeding fees. The horse that was put to death yesterday was a filly, and it is well known that females horses grow even more slowly than the males. These horses cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and I am again saddened that such a sport continues not to understand the health risks created for these beautiful animals.

I am not a big fan of PETA, nevertheless, is there anything to this story Bob. They claim he was excessivly whipped before the finishing line.

On Tuesday, van Basten will have a meeting with about 30 potential EC candidates, and on the 28 of May, he will name the 23 players who will play.

My bet on the 30 man squad:
MÄlvakter: Van der Sar, Stekelenburg, Timmer, Velthuizen

Backar: De Cler, Bouma, Ooijer, Mathijsen, Heitinga, Melchiot, Emanuelson, Boulahrouz, Jaliens

MittfÀltare: Van Bronckhorst, Engelaar, Landzaat, De Zeeuw, Van der Vaart, Afellay, Sneijder, Babel, Robben, Van Persie, Seedorf, De Jong, De Guzman

Anfallare: Van Nistelrooy, Huntelaar, Vennegoor of Hesselink, Koevermans

No Kuijt, he? I would be incredibly surprised if he didn’t make the first 30. My guess:

Goal: van der Sar, Stekelenberg, Timmer, Velthuizen

Defenders: Mathijsen, Heitinga, Bouma, Ooijer, de Cler, Melchiot, Kromkamp, Emanuelson, Jaliens

Midfield: Sneijder, van der Vaart, Robben, Afelley, de Zeeuw, Seedorf, Babel, van Bronckhorst, Engelaar, Landzaat,

Forward: van Nistelrooij, Huntelaar, van Persie, Vennegoor of Hesselink, Kuijt, Koevermans, Sno

@tjeerd–In my opinion, they are all “excessively whipped”, especially near the finish line. Horse owners I have spoken with claim that the whip does not actually land on the horse’s side, only makes a loud whipping noise that inspires the horse to go faster. As I wrote in an earlier blog, I hate horse racing and disasters such as this recent one only make me sad for the animals, who have no say in the matter.

In football, we have choices and freedom. That is a sport I can love and affirm.

Aw of course Kuyt. Remove Guzzy, though I think van Basten will pick him in the 30 man squad since he likes to surprise a bit.

Goal: Edwin, Stekelenburg, Timmer 3

Defense: Melchiot, Mathijsen, Bouma, De Cler, Heitinga, Ooijer, Kromkamp 7

Midfield: Vaart, Sneijder, Seedorf, Zeeuw, Gio, Afellay, Bommel 7

Forwards/Wingers: Ruud, Huntelaar, Kuyt, Persie, Babel, Robben 6

Prediction: If Kromkamp and Bommel make the 30 man list it is because they are going to the EC.

That’d be MY ideal 23, but I know it won’t be Marco’s 23. He will call a player like Hesselink or Koevermans and won’t call Bommel.

then click on ‘ Voetbal insite, aflevering 17 met Marco van Basten’ , hope it works (actually didnt know RTL had an ‘ uitzending gemist’ option Jan)

have fun!
