Eredivisie predictions: who wins the title?

Time to get the poll thingamajig out again. I didn’t pay for it not to use it, right?

It’s time to get all interactive on your collective asses! We’ve been dormant for some time after the EC and during the Olympics most of us couldn’t care less, but now…the action starts again!

The English competition has started, Oranje has played its first under Bertje… so let’s do some pondering here.

Which team will win the title in Holland this season:

Ajax? With Marco (and John, Robbie, Danny and Dennis at his side) and a bunch of new exciting players plus the Hunter secured for another season…

PSV? Harde Huub’s approach might work wonders for the softies there in Eindhoven. Chuck in that new goalie (no one will remember Gomes in 6 months) and Nordin Amrabat and you never know. They won the title three years in a row, why not a fourth one?

Feyenoord? Gertjan Verbeek could prove to be a top coach and Jon Dahl wants to end his career in style. And there numerous talents in Rotterdam: De Guzman, Vlaar, Vincken, Bruins, Mols (oh well…)…
No one expects Feyenoord to do it this season, so who knows?

AZ Alkmaar? Louis had the worst of seasons (bar the WC2002 qualifications… sorry Louis, I will never let you get off the hook for that one!!) last year but with some new players (Aussie Brett Holman among others), who says they can’t be back at the top in one season?

FC Twente? Fred Rutten was responsible for Twente’s past successes. True. But
Umbrella Man McLaren knows a thing or two ’bout football… Despite the fact that Twente lost Engelaar to Schalke, Luke Wilkins to Moscow (what??) and that other bloke to Feyenoord, Steve could write history with FC Twente…

Who will win the Dutch title this season?

Psv will win

If KJH stays, Ajax has the most talented, young attacking options of any eredivisie team in the last 5-10 yrs. However, they are a considerably weaker, at least in comparision to psv, in the middle and at the back. The problem will be linking to the front men. If they can link from the mid to the front, they will have too much for anybody.

I voted for Ajax, as I would like to see their team skill level rise to the top again. Goose is probably correct as to PSV.

On another subject, did you watch the Real Madrid-Villareal match yesterday? Real went down to eight field players, with van de Vaart and van Nistelrooy getting red cards for nasty tackles! Robben played well and set up at least one, perhaps two of the Real goals after they went down to 9 men. Drenthe also played, in the second half, but did little. van Nistelrooy scored on a penaly kick, shortly before being booted, to tie the score at 1-1. Then, after Real was reduced to 9 players, they proceeded to tear Villa apart, with the final score being 4-2, all but one goal in the second half. The Villa defense was terrible, a lesson as always for the Dutch national team. Even without two of the four flying Dutchmen, this was a great match to watchs, with football lessons to be learned throughout.

As an Ajax fan I have to vote for them, seeing as they now have a strong attacking four up front, although their defense is wavering. I think PSV have the best defense in the league, and still a strong offense, but it will be the games against big teams, where the defense falls apart costing them the title. And as much as I like Feyenoords two veteran strikers in front of a young midfield, I still have to give it to Ajax. But I think Feyenoord will be competetors for the UEFA cup, maybe an all-dutch final.

thats the formation that feyenoord should use.

Has anyone noticed that Heerenveen have had a lot of good strikers in passed years, and that if they hadn’t sold them all they could be field an attacking trio that including Afonso Alves, Huntelaar, and Sulejmani.

I voted for Ajax, but I’m not that sure. I think this year will be between PSV and Ajax, and hopefully it will be a close race.

i see psv as the best candidate to win the title one more time, maybe the year after van basten will have built his competitive ajax team that can win the title.

@dirk; Heerenveen has had a great eye for talents and bargains the last 15 years..its just a very good club with great structure and knowledgeable people (Riemer van de Velde, Foppe de Haan) who stayed at the club for a long time and made it one of the most stable clubs in Holland

other teams should take a good look at Heerenveen

Voted Ajax for a little more than pure sentimental reasons as I believe if they can hang on to the hunter for a full season, they will be very dangerous. Something tells me the hunter will be hunted again come January. Man U and Spurs (after they lose Berbatov) will both need extra strikers. If Ajax can hang on to the hunter, I can’t see anyone in Holland beat them.

PSV will give Ajax a hard run for the money but with a coaching staff like that at Ajax now, I see a bit of the old finally coming back.

That is even without JC, unfortunately.

@Michel-O; Who voted for Twente?

I think that given the excellence of this blog, I believe Steve McLaren may very well be a frequent reader, and if you see any posts signed UmbrellaMan my suspicion will be confirmed

@ finnster01
i agree, i have a feeling it’s “steve v.d. klarijn” :)

@ dave
good line up, but Vermealen and Vertonghen is suicide. never play 2 belgian at the same time.

@ Jan
dutch players are always getting injured, maybe it’s in their dna.

PSV, I think, are by far the strongest team. It’s hard to compare them man-for-man with any other team. I wouldn’t be surprised if they went far in the Champions League this year as well.

Vooruit PSV!

I voted for Feyenoord of course. Two reasons: one, I’m a loyal Feyenoord fan and Feyenoord fans are dimwits. Second, I always vote the outsider, so if it does happen ( 1% chance) I win the big jackpot and everybody thinks I am a genius. If I don’t win (99% chance) I can hide behind reason one :-)
