Greg van der Wiel: I wanted to be Van Persie…
Gregory van der Wiel…
John Heitinga won’t be playing against Scotland. The 21 year old Ajax right back may have a good chance starting this time around. Who is Gregory van der Wiel?
Greg van der Wiel recently got his seventh tattoo. The lush letters on the lower right arm will remind him that his career path [...]
Murderous competition in Oranje
The Oranje players were together for the second time on the trainings pitch in 2009, yesterday. It’s been six weeks since the Tunisia game. In that period, the 22 internationals’ clubs played 183 games in total, in the competition, national cup and Europe. In 43 of those, they did without a Dutchman on the [...]
Van Marwijk: Every opponent is tough for Oranje
Bert uses this dog to train his defenders…
Today, Oranje and Bert van Marwijk will start their preparation for the qualification games against Scotland and Macedonia. An interview…
Can it still go wrong in our group?
Bert: “We’re not there yet. So anything can happen, theoretically. But let’s be straight: if we don’t make it now, with our [...]
Graeme Rutjes: we had to win the WC1990!
Graeme Rutjes (48) played 13 matches for Oranje. The former Excelsior, KV Mechelen and Anderlecht defender is now the general manager of a golf resort in Zeeland. Rutjes tells us about his past, present and future.
“I have no idea how many internationals I played. It could be ten or fifteen… I never counted them. I [...]
Bert van Marwijk goes easy on Oranje players
Bert van Marwijk used his experience as club trainer Monday night, when he told the press he’d allow his players rest in the warm up for the Sweden game. The players did a 45 minute warm-up and were told to take a shower after that.
Van Marwijk decided to heed the warnings and requests of the [...]
Ruud among the best of the world! (Where’s Ed??)
Ruud auditions for the sequel to the Hulk: “No Sar?? Don’t make me hungry, you won’t like me when I’m hungryyyyYYYYY!!!!!!”
While the Dutch behemoth Feyenoord keeps plodding along in the domestic competition (see http://eredivisie.theoffside.com for breaking news!!) and Van Gol successor Huntelaar found the net twice, it’s our boys abroad who keep the fire going [...]
If Oranje grows up, it wants to be…
A poll!
Why not?
We have exactly 20 minutes between the last competition match and the next CL game, right?
If Oranje could copy the playing style of one of the big kahuna’s in European football, which style should Oranje adopt? Which system would suit our players and what team would you want Bert to study in order [...]
Bert can experiment now… Part 1.
As we discussed earlier on the blog, the second best thing about Oranje being so many points up towards the WC is the fact that Bert van Marwijk can use the time till March to experiment with his group (the best thing being that Oranje is…well…so many points up…).
I personally feel the team is still [...]
Comfort zone for Oranje
When I watched the Norway – Holland game I realized we could lose and I also realized it may even be a good thing to lose. In the first place, we’d get some excitement back in this group and secondly, I always feel Oranje needs pressure to deliver. When all’s going our way, we tend [...]
Van der Sar: I’ll go to the WC2010!!
…as a tourist, he added …
Van der Sar expressed his joy after the Norway game.
“At least I can say I retired with a victory! That was important to me to, you know? I realized at the EC that if we would be beaten – as we were by Russia – I’d have to look [...]
World Cup Moments: Das Wunder von Bern, 1954
It may surprise the casual fan or those new to the sport to learn that Hungary were once, bar none, the greatest team in all the lands. In fact the Aranycsapat - the Magnificent, Magical, Marvellous or Mighty Magyars - still reign as a team of such hushed majestic legend you wonder if they existed in reality at all. They were tactical revolutionaries, the brainchildren behind Brazil's dash to prominence and much of the modern game in general, and football's unparalleled juggernaut; within a frame of six years, they lost one solitary football game.
That one game happened to be the 1954 World Cup final, Das Wunder von Berne (The Miracle of Bern). [read more]
World Cup 2010 Jerseys: France
Today we're taking a look at the home and away jerseys of France, as modelled by Karim Benzema to the left there.
All World Cup 2010 jerseys are available to see and buy in our World Cup 2010 store, but the idea here is that we take an honest and semi-critical look at the home and away shirts of all 32 teams at World Cup 2010. Remember, everything below is just personal opinion / kneejerk reaction and I've got no fashion credentials other than accidentally seeing about four episodes of Project Runway. So whether you agree of disagree I'd love to get your reaction to these shirts in the comments. [read more]
World Cup Moments: David Beckham's Red Card vs Argentina in 1998
Because today is David Beckham's much talked about return to Old Trafford, it seems the perfect time to relive one of the key moments in Beckham's career. At World Cup 1998 the man not yet known as Goldenballs was just 23 years old and competing with Darren Anderton to play right wing back for England. After scoring a trademark free kick vs Colombia in the group stage, Beckham was given the start for the Second Round knockout game vs Argentina. But then it all went a bit wrong. [read more]
World Cup 2010 Jerseys: South Africa
Almost all the team jerseys for World Cup 2010 have now been revealed, and are available to buy from our World Cup 2010 jersey store. Based on what we've seen so far, I'm reasonably impressed. There aren't nearly as many templated designs as expected, and the retro look seems to be very much in.
So starting today we're going to cast a close critical eye at each nation's World Cup 2010 home and away shirts and other attire. We'll do so honestly and semi-respectfully and without any of the technical guff about moisture wicking. Whatever that is. We'll go group by group, and so first up is your World Cup host South Africa, from Group A. [read more]

PSV drop points but remain at the top, 0-0 against Vitesse Arnhem
If ball possession ever won you games, then I think I would have gone to sleep happily knowing that my favourite team had an extra 3 points to cushion their lead. By end of the story, it felt like Feyenoord version 2. The Boerens dominated but lacked finishing touch all ...

Christmas present - players loaned out to Willem II and Peru's Juan Aurich
The very short list of PSV players loaned out has been increased "dramatically" percentage wise with the addition of Reimond Manco and Stef Nijland onto the 4 man list! For the two youngsters, they still lack in ability to really nail down a spot in the first team. But these two ...
Christmas of nothingness
For those who don't know, the heavens have caused a mega spoil party over at Europe (and North America) by bombarding snow.
