No more changes: Ajax says no to 40 Million!
It’s over and done with. No more transfers till the Winter window.
Ajax found itself in a little dilemma when two sub top clubs from Europe dangled a carrot of the value of 40 Mio euros in Van Basten’s face: Klaas Jan Huntelaar being the sacrifice for that. But, Ajax said, they weren’t of the calibre [...]
Dutch Masters: Adrie van Tiggelen
Adrie now…
EC1988 winner Adrie van Tiggelen is assistant coach at Sparta and is a happy trooper. “Head coach Foeke Booy allows me to do the training often. He just observes, while I do the work. I keep track of progress and discuss the program with him. When Aandewiel was coach, the board asked me to [...]
Bert van Marwijk’s summer-tour
Mark van Bommel is back!
Today, Bert van Marwijk’s tenure with Oranje really starts. In the past couple of weeks he traveled around Europe to see his boys perform again after the EC2008. The friendly against Russia will be “the introduction game”, according to Van Marwijk, who knows six players from personal history at Feyenoord and [...]
Wondergoals: Marciano Vink
We live in the YouTube age and everything that has been filmed or will be filmed can be found in a matter of seconds (or if you live in Australia: minutes…).
I will never forget this particular moment. A great goal by one-time-supertalent Marciano Vink. The Ajax player – destined to become the next Ruud Krol [...]
A bit of everything
FC Twente played an impressive match against big guns Arsenal for the CL qualifications in Enschede.
Although the McLaren team never looked liked they’d whip the Gunners’ arses, a goalless draw seemed possible. Arsenal benefited from a defensive blunder after an hour of play, when the Tukkers forgot to clear a Van Persie free kick and [...]
Ruud van Gol: enough is enough
Almost ten years after his debut in Oranje Ruud van Nistelrooy decided to stop as international. The 32 year old striker wants to focus fully on his career with Real Madrid.
He already told new team manager Bert van Marwijk that the WC2010 is a bridge too far. Van Nistelrooy said he didn’t take his decision [...]
Best Oranje Ever: part 3: creative midfielders
I’ve got myself into a pickle a bit… I explained it earlier… Being totally biased ( ) I expect we all want Marco to be our center striker, but what do we do with one Johan Cruyff, who played basically on every position (apparently, he was a very good goalkeeper as well!)? So, [...]
Looking ahead to the WC2010 :-)
The 2010 World Championship in South Africa is unique to start with. Never before was there a WC in Africa. Holland shares the qualifications group with Scotland, Norway, Macedonia and Iceland. None of these nations were at the EC2008.
The WC will be held from 11 June to 11 July 2010.
New team manager
After the EC2008, [...]
Jaap Stam farewell match with Romario and Maldini
Arsahvin: “I’m sorry I never had to chance to play against Stam… NOT!”
Jaap Stam is one of those players who took the long and winding road to the top. Never acknowledged by the selection-masters of Zeist when he was young, Stam started his pro career at FC Zwolle. Went to Cambuur before making a name [...]
Hot transfer news
Deco will move from Barcelona to Chelsea. The Portuguese midfielder will be reunited with his Portugal coach Scolari.
Patrick Kluivert returns to Holland! He will move from Lille to AZ Alkmaar and will be reunited with his old Ajax and Oranje coach Louis van Gaal. Kluivert is not at AZ as a player though, but as [...]
Podcast: World Cup 2010 Group B Preview. "You hear that, Mr. Anderson?"
World Cup previews. They can be a bit dull and not particularly helfpul when it comes to predicting who will qualify from each group. One reason for this is that they focus too much on things like players and not enough on the really good things. Like quality of national [read more]
FIFA Has $1 Billion in Reserve Funds, But Still Doesn't Appreciate Clever Advertising
Two bits of news today. Read them both, and then decide for yourself whether the two are related.
The first story is that FIFA made a profit of $196 million in 2009, and now has a reserve cash fund of more than $1 billion. One billion dollars in the vault. Which makes FIFA sound a little like a Bond villain.
The second story is that FIFA have come down hard on South African budget airline kulula.com for what FIFA calls "ambush marketing". Basically, Kulula isn't an official World Cup sponsor, and as such is not allowed to suggest otherwise. Which makes perfect sense. However, Kulula - famous for its slightly left-field advertising campaigns - recently ran an ad in the South African Sunday Times newspaper on February 28th stating the airline was the "Unofficial National Carrier of the You-Know-What". The World Cup 2010 DJ Playlist (Musical Lineup)
(That kid immediately gets some sort of WCB Order of Merit.)
There's going to be a rather large party in South Africa this year. Some call it the World Cup.
But before there can be the real party, there must be another party beforehand. Because it's not really a party unless it's sandwiched by eight other parties of no importance whatsoever. And judging by the musical lineup for the World Cup pre-party, this will be no different. [read more]
FIFA World Cup 2026: Colombia!
There are many things which FIFA isn't very good at. One of them is putting anyone in the organization in front of a microphone, or allowing spilled words onto a page into the hands of the media. Another is running the world's football organization.
So FIFA, after handing this year's World Cup to the country with the second highest per capita murder rate, are looking to outdo themselves by sponsoring a World Cup bid by the world's most dangerous country, Colombia. Hip hip. [read more]

Christmas present - players loaned out to Willem II and Peru's Juan Aurich
