Champions League Matchday 4

November 4th, 2008 | By: Jan | 29 Comments »

Don’t you hate it when you get up in the morning to watch a great game between two big name clubs, only for the ref to mock it up in the dying seconds? Man!
I mean, I am a Reds man. I love Kuyt, Gerrard, Abelardo and Torres… But they didn’t deserve that late penalty. A [...]

UEFA Cup results…what to make of it?

October 23rd, 2008 | By: Jan | 22 Comments »

Vermaelen scores at Villa Park
But we start with remarkable news from FC Utrecht: the club has a scoop, they must be the first club in the history of pro football where the management decided after a bad season start to fire all coaches, except for the head coach! That’s right… Willem van Hanegem stays, but [...]

UEFA Cup Draw

October 7th, 2008 | By: Jan | 10 Comments »

This week the UEFA cup draw was held and these are the results:
Heerenveen gets Ronaldinho and Co. AC Milan is in Heerenveen’s group, as are Wolfsburg, Sporting Praga and Portsmouth. A very tough group, both AC Milan and Portsmouth are bigger than Heerenveen and even Wolfsburg should be regarded to be stronger.
Ajax is in [...]

All Dutch clubs through!

October 2nd, 2008 | By: Jan | 8 Comments »

“Wijnaldo” scored the first for Feyenoord….
I told you so, Dutch clubs belong in the UEFA Cup. I’ve never seen Feyenoord players be so happy after winning the first (!) round UEFA Cup…. It’s sad, but I decided to leave that for now and to party with the rest of them. Hup hup hup, ole ole [...]

UEFA Cup contenders: preview

October 1st, 2008 | By: Jan | 3 Comments »

The master and his apprentice…
PSV demonstrated yesterday that we probably feel most comfortable in the UEFA Cup these days. A sad but realistic statement.
For now, Ajax, Feyenoord, NEC, Heerenveen and FC Twente are our contenders, maybe with PSV - a big maybe - thrown in the mix.
Ajax plays at home to “defend” a 1-5 lead [...]

Dutch battlers in Europe

September 30th, 2008 | By: Jan | 30 Comments »

PSV, Feyenoord, Ajax and the other usual suspects are at it again, this week…
PSV will have to travel to Anfield Road to battle Kuyt and Babel and the other Reds.
Ibrahim Afellay, the PSV dangerman of the moment, won’t be playing due to injury.
Feyenoord is off to their demise or will the miracle actually happen against [...]

UEFA Cup: where do we stand?

September 19th, 2008 | By: Jan | 23 Comments »

Hunter scores again after 6 dry matches.
Hard to say, really.
Feyenoord lost at home against Sweden’s number one. Feyenoord had to play without Slory, Makaay, Landzaat and Bruins and due to all hick-ups in the warm up Verbeek’s team just hasn’t been able to gel yet. Can you blame anyone? The Swedes obviously are a team [...]

UEFA Cup warm up

September 18th, 2008 | By: Jan | 3 Comments »

NEC coach Mario Been
Well, I’d almost say: the interesting European Cup for us Dutchies is starting soon… As if I accept the fact that we don’t have any business in the CL. And with PSV’s performance against Atletico, this might well be true. Does Holland have anything to achieve in the Champions League? Do we [...]

Matchday 1, part 2: Real Madrid disappoints…

September 17th, 2008 | By: Jan | 13 Comments »

Man United had a clincher to start with this CL campaign, playing Villareal at home.
Manchester looked the business throughout, but with a strong opponent like Villareal, you don’t want to give too much away. The Mancunians didn’t, but were also unable to create anything more than pressure and a couple of chances, 0-0. Van der [...]

Ibrahim Afellay not nervous for Atletico

September 16th, 2008 | By: Jan | 1 Comment »

Ibrahim Afellay has to smile when he hears the question: which PSV player has more experience in the CL than the 22 year old? Afellay answers: “I don’t know. It’s your job to do your own research.”
It’s a weird reality, only two players - the 35 year old Timmy Simons and the 25 year old [...]
