Even before the national competition starts, FC Twente will face their biggest game of the season this Wednesday in Lisbon.
The Tukkers will need to qualify for the fourth round of the CL, the last hurdle towards the Millionaire’s Ball.
“We do have some challenges this season,” said coach Steve McClaren before the first leg. “And the [...]

Feyenoord: worst team since years…

November 29th, 2008 | By: Jan | 3 Comments »

There was a unanimous conclusion after Deportivo-Feyenoord: the latter doesn’t have any business playing in the European cup. “Nine goals conceded, three games and zero points. That tells the story,” was Verbeek’s sad end-statement.
Depor, the sports paper in Galicia, said: “This is the worst team we’ve seen for a long time. Including the cup match [...]

Champions League Matchday 4

November 4th, 2008 | By: Jan | 29 Comments »

Don’t you hate it when you get up in the morning to watch a great game between two big name clubs, only for the ref to mock it up in the dying seconds? Man!
I mean, I am a Reds man. I love Kuyt, Gerrard, Abelardo and Torres… But they didn’t deserve that late penalty. A [...]

This week the UEFA cup draw was held and these are the results:
Heerenveen gets Ronaldinho and Co. AC Milan is in Heerenveen’s group, as are Wolfsburg, Sporting Praga and Portsmouth. A very tough group, both AC Milan and Portsmouth are bigger than Heerenveen and even Wolfsburg should be regarded to be stronger.
Ajax is in [...]

“Wijnaldo” scored the first for Feyenoord….
I told you so, Dutch clubs belong in the UEFA Cup. I’ve never seen Feyenoord players be so happy after winning the first (!) round UEFA Cup…. It’s sad, but I decided to leave that for now and to party with the rest of them. Hup hup hup, ole ole [...]

UEFA Cup contenders: preview

October 1st, 2008 | By: Jan | 3 Comments »

The master and his apprentice…
PSV demonstrated yesterday that we probably feel most comfortable in the UEFA Cup these days. A sad but realistic statement.
For now, Ajax, Feyenoord, NEC, Heerenveen and FC Twente are our contenders, maybe with PSV – a big maybe – thrown in the mix.
Ajax plays at home to “defend” a 1-5 lead [...]

Dutch battlers in Europe

September 30th, 2008 | By: Jan | 30 Comments »

PSV, Feyenoord, Ajax and the other usual suspects are at it again, this week…
PSV will have to travel to Anfield Road to battle Kuyt and Babel and the other Reds.
Ibrahim Afellay, the PSV dangerman of the moment, won’t be playing due to injury.
Feyenoord is off to their demise or will the miracle actually happen against [...]
