Ajax – Juventus 1-2…
What a poster it is. The repeat of the Champions League finals of 1996. And the 1973 European Final. Ajax vs Juve. The Sons of Gods vs the Old Lady. But, that was 1996 and CL. Now it’s 2010 and Europa League. The underwhelming Italians against the wanna-be’s from Amsterdam.
I’d expected to see the difference [...]
Van Marwijk selects Vlaar for USA friendly!
Team manager Bert van Marwijk selected Ron Vlaar in the preliminary squad for the USA friendly in March. It’s the first time Van Marwijk called on the Feyenoord defender.
Van Marwijk – who worked with Vlaar at Feyenoord before – stated that he has been careful with Vlaar, due to his serious injuries. “I have watched [...]
Clarence Seedorf, developing the ideal club with Monza
Monza… A legendary name! Everyone gets goosebumps hearing sound of the Italian town… Everyone that loves motorsports, that is…
Clarence Seedorf is Holland’s record prize collector. He has a motor-cross team, invests heavily in sports-venues in Suriname and as if it’s not enough cheats on AC Milan by pouring his heart and soul into Serie [...]
Top 11 Strikers in Oranje!
Oranje always had players who could score a goal. And we had them in all sorts of sizes and types. Kees Kist the killer. Cees van Kooten the bulldozer. Ruud Geels the anti-football player, Peter Houtman the air-man, Pi-Air van Hooijdonk Mr Free-kick, Wim Kieft the near-post poacher, Nico Jansen the butcher, Klaas Jan Huntelaar [...]
Oranje’s new jersey…
I suppose I should give some attention to our new jersey… I personally don’t care what they wear. I mean, I do…but at the end of the day, I don’t. I remember not liking the 1988 AT ALL, but they did ok in them, didn’t they? I liked the 2006 retro-look, but I’m pushing 50, [...]
Nigel de Jong best paid Dutch football player
Since quite some time it’s relatively unknown Dutch sporters who top the list of best-buffalo hunters. Rik Smits was the best paid Dutch athlete for a while (Basketball) and Andruw Jones is the current top grabber. The Chicago White Sox baseball player won’t be adorning many a boys’ bedroom in Holland. He did have a [...]
Oranje with only Eredivisie-players….
I had to think about this when I wrote the piece on Arnold Muhren. In 1985, Kees Rijvers only selected players from Holland. My Goodness, what a time that was….
Kees Rijvers, played football in France and Italy but only wanted to select Eredivisie chaps…
What if Bert would do the same thing…. I don’t see a [...]
Weekend Action in the Eredivisie
Last Ajax team winning the title: spot Sneijder, Van der Vaart, Pienaar and De Jong!
We pick up on Eredivisie action when the action deserves it and when I have the bloody time to cover it (or see it).
After 20+ games, there’s no hiding really. If you’re in the top 4, you’re probably doing ok, when [...]
Arnold Muhren looks back at the 1988 EC
The name Muhren is a famous one in the little fishing village of Volendam, just north of Amsterdam. Along with names like Tol, Veerman and Tuyp. You were either a famous musician ( The Cats) or a famous football player, if you were born with that surname.
Focusing on football here, the most famous Muhren was [...]
EC2012 draw: Oranje meets Hungary….
While we’re gearing up to the play the WC 2010 in South Africa and debating who should play on the right-wing, Kuyt or Castelen, the UEFA decided to get started with the EC2012 already…
As you know, Holland was in Pot 1 as group leader so all other teams in our group are actually minions…. But [...]
List of World Cup 2010 Teams in International Friendly Action Today
Lots of friendly international football action today. For most (maybe all) World Cup 2010 teams, this isn't just a chance to show off the new jerseys they'll be wearing in South Africa, it's also the last game of football before the provisional World Cup squads are named in May, followed by the final World Cup squad/roster deadline on June 10th. So there's plenty to play for, especially for individual players.
Some big games too, featuring plenty of World Cup 2010 teams going head to head: Germany vs Argentina anyone? France vs Spain? Bring it on.
England vs Egypt should be interesting too, just to see what sort of reaction John Terry gets.
Here is a list of all international fixtures involving World Cup qualified teams: [read more]
The Amauri Saga Climaxes With A Silent Thud
Eighteen months ago, Amauri was perhaps the most hotly debated international in the land - solely because he wasn't an international at all. After a big money & big talent move north to Juventus, Amauri got off to a blistering start in Torino.
This didn't impress Dunga, who refused to call up the giant Drogba-wig impersonator to the shock of many (though he was eventually called for a friendly but pulled out injured), which sent alarms blaring all over Italia because the Azzurri are still desperately searching under every rock in the peninsula for that first striker. And after years - quite literally years - it'll all culminate today when Amauri finally gets his Italian passport.
Yet after all the hullabaloo, no one cares anymore. [read more]
World Cup Legends: Just Fontaine.
When the words "1958 World Cup" pop into conversation, the minds of most typically latch onto one name: Pelé.
It was his coming out party and he deserves every bit of praise he receives, leading Brazil to its first title as a 17 year old burgeoning legend. Yet lurking in the not-so-distant background is a man whose tournament was no less impressive, and still stands today as the single most statistically bountiful World Cup in history: France's Just Fontaine. Zinedine Zidane Shows His Futsal Skills in France '98 vs Algeria '82/'86
Relations between France and Algeria have always been a bit tricky. This isn't the place to discuss the specifics, but there's a whole Wikipedia page about Algeria–France relations if you want to read up. Despite said trickiness, there is one man who can claim to be loved in both countries: Zinedine Zidane.
Born in France to Algerian parents, Zidane is unmistakably proud of his dual identity. So yesterday Zizou and other members of France's 1998 World Cup winning team played a game of futsal in Algeria vs a combination of the 1982 and 1986 Algerian World Cup teams.
The idea seems to have been to promote good will and friendship between the two nations. A worthy cause of course. But I know you (like me) are probably more interested in seeing Zidane in action on the futsal court. Don't worry, there's plenty of video below. [read more]

PSV drop points but remain at the top, 0-0 against Vitesse Arnhem
If ball possession ever won you games, then I think I would have gone to sleep happily knowing that my favourite team had an extra 3 points to cushion their lead. By end of the story, it felt like Feyenoord version 2. The Boerens dominated but lacked finishing touch all ...

Christmas present - players loaned out to Willem II and Peru's Juan Aurich
The very short list of PSV players loaned out has been increased "dramatically" percentage wise with the addition of Reimond Manco and Stef Nijland onto the 4 man list! For the two youngsters, they still lack in ability to really nail down a spot in the first team. But these two ...

For those who don't know, the heavens have caused a mega spoil party over at Europe (and North America) by bombarding snow.
