Poll: Which Oranje jersey do you like best?

Yes! Another poll. Next Monday, Oranje will play their first EC match in a totally new outfit. A combination of nifty material and stylish design.

What did the jerseys look like in the last 20 years? Here comes an overviiew of the different home shirts. In 1988, when Oranje won their first and only prize, most fans hated the jersey. Later on, in 1990, a collar was added and the orange color became more….orange.

The EC1992 and WC1994 were basically similar. Lotto was the new sponsor, replacing German brand Adidas. In 1996, Oranje played the last tournament with the classic KNVB logo.

In 1998, the Oranje jersey got a face lift, courtesy of sponsor Nike. The white collar was replaced by black. In 2000, the Nike shirts lost the collar. The 2002 shirt is almost ignored, because of the bitter taste after Van Gaal failed to lead the team to the WC.

In 2004, Oranje played in a very modern jersey but for the WC2006, the KNVB went retro with the classic look, including collar. The lion logo of the KNVB was also put back on the shirt. This summer, the extra’s are the three-colored Dutch flag on the collar and parts of the National anthem lyrics on the inside of the shirt. I expect all players to quickly pull their shirts over their heads when the anthem is played, so they can sing along…

2006 was probably the best shirt I’ve ever seen. The collar’s great, it’s nice and simple, looks really well fitted. Retro, but at the same time with very modern features. I wear my Sneijder one to play all sorts of stuff because it kind of feels more multi-purpose than most footie shirts.

I actually own ‘02 with Kluivert on the back although I think ‘00 is the best.

Lol, my first Oranje shirt is the ‘02 version with Overmars on the back. And Jan, you mentioned in that poll that as a blogger you got a free jersey? Did you really? And if so, I know everyone wants to know WHO you had put on the back?

If I end up getting one of the ‘08 shirts, which are really quite classy, I’ll likely go for Sneijder.

No my friend, I wish :-)

I didn’t get one. But if I would, I’d probably go for Van Persie. He is my fave player, ever since he came onto the scene at Feyenoord. It was clear that he was such an outrageous talent! I don’t mind Van Nistelrooy of course.

I hate Nike kits, I’ve hated all the Nike Oranje shirts – I’m torn between the 1990 Adidas shirt and the 1992 Lotto as my favourite.

Still I think ‘88 is the best, simply beacuse Oranje won the trophy with wearing that. hahaha… Don’t like ‘06 jersey, the vintage thing just a way too much…

I love the 2000 as well, brings back fond memories of visiting my family in Holland during the Euro. Hosting added to the fun 10 fold!

I have the ‘06 version with Robben on the back, will be wearing it to the bar here in Austin, Texas on Monday.

I like the classic KNVB logo, but for some reason I like the 2004 jersey…

Jan, can you do one for the 70’s & 80’s kits, along with the away jerseys?

Klaas, I agree about the away Jersey, it was a nice one, wasn’t it? And the current away jersey is pretty nice too.

agree with goose and brian, not a fan of the nike’s although i think this year’s jersey is nice…i voted for the ‘94 jersey, but also really liked the 1990 and 2004 jerseys. my fav jersey (which i own) is the ‘74 version…long sleeves, three stripes with the big lion over the heart…classic.

‘88 and ‘06 are definitely my favourite. ‘88, obviously means alot to the Oranje fans, and for some reasons I really think the Lotto ones are ugly.

This year’s away “light blue” shirt is nice too.

The new home jersey reminds me of the 92 orange jersey every time I see it. I guess it’s because of the Dutch flag collar, and Van Nistelrooy again reminds me of Van Basten as they are both no.9 and they have a strong body.

I like the ‘04 one the most, will be even better if it’s not identical to Brazil, Korea, Portugal, all those designed by Nike…
As for away jersey, I still think Oranje should wear white

The ‘02 used to be my favourite. Wearing the ‘06 was comfortable. Wearing the ‘04 was like being wrapped by a piece of paper, I never used it again when I bought the ‘06.

Goose & Igor are spot on!! Those 74’s have to be the all time best.

Imagine having Neeskens coming in to tackle you wearing one of those 74 giant lions? Especially if you just tackled Johan Cruiff from behind previously…Now that would put a bit of fear in you, wouldn’t it?

@finnster; and now try picure Neeskens in one of those awful vintage kits..cant see a real tackle in one of them shirts, the worst kit ever..it made the team look old and slow

I’m sorry guys, someone asked me if I could do this shirt thing from 1974 onwards, but for now I can’t. These pics were “handed” to me through the AD newspaper. I’d have to start collecting pics of all the other shirts and put them together etc etc… It’s a tad too hard for now, I’m sorry.

The best jersey of all is the 1988 jersey. Retro kit. The oranje pattern, and that’s the best year of all too coz they won their first title. Great jersey= great performance. Nike kits suck. Adidas has the best kits
