English KNVB site “soon”…

knvb.jpg

At the request of some of you I again contact the Dutch Federation (KNVB) and they replied to me last night:

“The new Dutch site is supposed to go live first, which was planned for May 1 but is delayed a little. It will still be May.
After that launch, the English version will go live, to serve our foreign site-visitors. All in time for the EC, we hope.”

Well, let’s keep our fingers crossed with this one.

The site address will be: www.knvb.nl or alternatively www.knvb.com

As soon as there’s more info, I’ll share it with you here!

Amazing how much effort KNVB are putting into their foreign fans. Wouldn’t you think they had figured out by now there are a substantial number of foreigners and next generation Dutch who are great fans of Oranje?

Especially in a year when there is a major tournament.

I’d be absolutely shocked if the English version is up and running (and vaguely functional) prior to EC08. I hope I am wrong, but the KNVB seems not be the most efficient and well run organization on this planet.

Hey, it is only 2008 and who needs the internet for anything? My 12 year old daughter has had her own website for 2 years already. Maybe she should apply for a job at KNVB?

Jan, thanks so much for your update on the KNVB website. As you suggest, I will not hold my breath, as you have received other “promises” from them that never materialized. As I have written in previous blogs, I do wonder about the leadership of Dutch football. Finnster states it well when he writes about this situation. 50 million football fans here in the US, with very, very few reading or speaking Dutch. That is why, KNVB, we want an English dimension to the website. Hello! Is anybody listening in Zeist? Do you understand the marketing possibilities if you get the website organized? Do you not like English speaking people? My ancestors spoke Dutch, but language is not inherited through our DNA and we have little opportunity to listen or read Dutch here in the US. Come on, KNVB, you can do it. Remember, the Dutch are known for persistence, intelligence and a “can do” attitude. The time is now, before Euro 2008, to step up to the plate (an American expression)and finally come through on your promises over the past 5 years. Go for it! We are a friendly people, and we simply want more information, in English, about Dutch football! Met Hartelijk bedank! (Did I get it right, Goose?)

Bob, I’ve decided to use your comments towards the Dutch KNVB in a special email. I’ve got the email addresses of the marketing honcho’s there and will try to get our voice through.

Jan, good luck and I hope the message is properly received. The KNVB should attend to the comments made on this blog. We are, individually and collectively, the Dutch team’s greatest fans.
