Best Oranje Ever, part 2: full backs and holding mid

Let’s keep them votes coming it…

I can’t help but organize this in a 4-3-3 system, so some players will have to play in a different position to the ones they were used to play…

But let’s move to the backs and holding midfielder…

Who would be the left full back in the Best Oranje Ever?
( polls)

And the right full back?
( polls)

And the best holding midfielder?
( polls)

You have to realize that with the choices left to us, I will have to take some creative liberties here… See, in my Super Eleven, Marco will be the best choice as center striker… And I know JC played there officially, but in reality JC played everywhere… So in my next polls, I will include JC as an option for the mid midfielders’ role. The playmaker. Which was essentially what JC was. Remember how John Rep scored many goals in 1974, as did Rensenbrink? Both wingers used the space left open by JC to come into the box as real center strikers… Just a thought…

basically, jan, if cocu doesn’t make it in the 11 then the whole thing is moot…gio too. they were both too good for too long. the defense is the easy part though…it’s whether we vote marc overmars in or not that is the toughest sort of thing.

yes. they were really good. i really respect both of them but as a holding midfielder johan neeskens or edgar david were better than cocu and as a left back ruud krol (especially in the defending duties) were better than gio.

Cocu, Gio, Aron Winter… They all have that same problem: very very useful in any team, but always a tad invisible. The ideal pro, the ideal gelling agent, but it’s always Dennis, Johan, Marco, Marc or Robin who will get the headlines… I am afraid that Cocu and Gio won’t end up in the Best Oranje Ever. But they will surely be on the bench!

Gio was never a real strength for Oranje. Wasn’t among the best, usually. Cocu was, but again in a non-remarkable way.

I am a fan of Cocu, big time, and of Winter, Gio and similar players but Wouters, Ronald Koeman, Ronald de Boer, Seedorf, Van Bommel…they won’t make it in this Best Ever Eleven. I think…

I’d say Adrie van Tiggelen as LB. Not a spectacular guy, but solid and though, many underestimate his defense-role in the ‘88 team, while Krol (my second choice) had much more flair and did more attacking. But the main reason I choose Adrie van Tiggelen is that he actually had won something.

Any way to stop this Spanish moron (like flagging his IP)? I bet it is the same idiot who has been bugging the board for a while now.

I’ll make sure this scumbags details are send to the right people so we can ban him. Why doesn’t he go and hang out with his friends if he likes them so much. Brrrr…..

Feel the same about Cocu and Gio, big fan of, but don’t think they’ll be part of Oranje best XI, part of best XXII at best. I’m not a fan of Winter, though.

Just realized that we don’t really have many choices at Right full back but have traditionally better Left full back (don’t we always have kick @$$ Lefties in our squad?). I remember Frank de Boer had some caps at the Left; Gio, Erwin and Numan are also decent.

BTW, you should be shot for putting Bogarde in any of “The Best” list ….. :-)

@Jan, from what I understand there is a pretty strong legal treaty that went into effect in January in EU that basically was intended to wipe out racist and xenophobic web content, and deal with this kind of crap. This chap from Spain is probably not even aware he is breaking the law. Not sure who you need to notify for something to happen, but this guys posts is disgusting and actually bothers me. It is disturbing that in this day and age people still carry these kind of sentiments.

@Finn: I know. We’re working on it. We’ve got his details and he won’t know what hit him :-) . He doesn’t realize who’s behind this website…

@Porchetta: I will fart in your general direction and your parents smell like elder-berries!!

My, Porchetta really is a dirty little smear of racist scum, isn’t he? The multi-racial makeup of many of Europe’s best sides must be killing him.

Let’s ignore the SOB, lads. We’ll do everything we can to keep him out of here. We’ll stick to what we like: good football, Orange Angels and being utter football experts :-) .

Sorry Porchetta, I can see that you are trying to post, but I can’t see anything that you are posting… I think your comments are automatically being blocked from us non-racists.
