And we move on to the strikers of the Best Oranje Ever!

What can you say… We need at least three Best Oranje’s Ever: we have Gullit, Bergkamp, Van Basten, Van Vossen, Rep, Rensenbrink, Moulijn, Keizer, Roy, Robben…IT”S NOT FAIR!

But…we have to pick one.

Best right winger in Best Oranje Ever…
( surveys)

The center strikers… We never had problems there…

Best Center Striker of Best Oranje Ever…
( polls)

And the weird guys. The left wingers… Pfff….soooo many….

And then the best left winger… in the Best Oranje (yeah yeah…)
( surveys)

I’m sorry lads, but the poll thingamajig stopped me from editing these polls. I forgot Robin van Persie!! How bad is that… I omitted him from right winger (WC2006) and from the center striker position (some qualification games). And I put him in twice as left winger. But the polling software goes all Porchetta on me when I try to change it… So…use “others” if you want.

Now, don’t send me hate-mail. I know Dennis only played right winger for a couple of matches at Ajax, but hey… Do you want to see Dennis, Marco and Johan in one team? Right! So zipp it!

But what a fun thing to do. Going through all these fine names from the past… Ling, Vermeulen, Rensenbrink, Pier Tol…

Most underrated striker in dutch history;

Willy van der Kuylen… all time topscorer in the Eredivisie with 311 goals! Also a great striker; Ruud Geels (Ajax, Feyenoord)

I would have picked Gullit for right winger, but since I chose him for right back I decided to go with Overmars – you just can’t beat his pace. I see a lot of people chose him for the left wing… did he play much on the left wing?
I’d love to see Bergkamp, Cruijff and Van Basten all in the same lineup, but I’m afraid it just won’t work out.. not with a 4-3-3 at least. Maybe with a 4-4-2 you could have Bergkamp and Van Basten as your two main strikers and Cruijff behind them in the midfield.

van der saar – suurbier, ronald koeman, rijkaard, krol – neeskens, cruijff, davids – gullit, van basten, rensenbrink. i know that i should have put somewhere van hanegem, bergkamp and frank de boer, but there is only place for eleven players.

@Ayl; please just ignore this pathetic guy… we all should just ignore him

@Brian; i was actually thinking about Overmars…he was the most economic player i have ever seen or since… ofcourse Keizer and Rensenbrink were much better players but were they as lethal and economic as Overmars?? im not sure

but its so difficult to get to a fav 11… i can hardly make one out of players ive seen in my lifetime…and its almost impossible to compare different periods in football; the football of the 70’s has little to do with the kind of football that is played nowadays

Ayl – yes, just ignore the prick. Do the same thing that you would do to a bully who wants attention on the playground. We all know how sad and pathetic he is, we don’t need to comment on it. By giving him any attention at all you are just encouraging him.

I’m kind of biased to the player’s I’ve seen more of, since I wasn’t around to see the players in the 70’s. Sometime I should watch the 74 WC to see them in all their glory.

@Caleb; You have to watch the 1974. It is in my book the finest vintage Orajne ever produced.

Too bad Gerd Muller, Briegel and Sepp Maier was around on a certain Sunday in July, but that Oranje team was awesome (and Ajax :-)

Kluivert was a natural… though Euro 2000, vs Italy, not his best day.

I think that my favourite team would be the players who were decisive in important matches, like bergkamp (Argentina, ‘98) and van Basten (Germany, ‘88) and Rensenbrink in ‘78 where he scored most of Oranjes goals (although he hammered the post in the last second of the final against Argentina). I think that the ‘78 performance was even better than that of the ‘74 squad, considering they were playing without JC.

It’s hard isn’t it…?

Van der Kuylen is still super scout for PSV, yes.

Oh, and Hans Peter Briegel didn’t play the 1974 squad, he was in the 1980s squad I believe.

But it is hard to mix players from 3 decades. How can you actually see Keizer and Van Hanegem play in todays game and compare them to respectively Overmars and Davids???? It’s madness.

I’d go for:

Sar
Gullit Rijkaard De Boer Davids
Neeskens Cruyff Van Hanegem
Bergkamp Van Basten Rensenbrink/Overmars

Subs:
Cocu
Overmars/Rensenbrink
Van Beveren
Krol
Sneijder
Van Persie
Van Nistelrooy

Aaarghh.h….i don’t know….

By the way: Ruud Geels also played for PSV. He was the first to play for all big three Dutch clubs. As far as I know, only one player repeated that after him.

Pop Quiz:

Who was that player?

@ Jan, Is it Ronald Koeman? I know Ajax and PSV for sure. And ended with Feyenoord.

Funny how the right winger question get 83 votes and the others a couple less…Why is that?

Hmmm…..

Well done, Dave :-) … That’s it. Ronald started at FC Groningen of course. Went to Ajax as midfielder. Cruyff (!) sold him to PSV and got Wouters instead. And Blind. (Van Basten was furious!!). Koeman played libero for PSV until he left for Barca (under Cruyff!!) and returned to Feyenoord when Van Hanegem lured him back…
