Young Oranje tops the group and takes Belgium along to Bejing

Both Holland and Belgium got what they wanted. Holland won the group and The Red Devils got the Olympic ticket.

Portugal was scared that the two neighbouring countries would make a deal, but although a draw was the result, it definitely was not a lounge-draw… Both teams went for the glory from the first second on. Young Oranje started strong, but had to concede a goal with the first counter attack of Belgium. The Ajax winger Tom de Mul escaped on the right flank after a Ryan Donk mistake and Mirallas could score a header out of de Mul’s cross, 0-1.

Within four minutes, Holland was back in the game. A wonderful set-up by Ryan Babel gave Rigter the opportunity to make the equalizer.
And in the 37nd minute it was Feyenoord midfielder and fan-favoruite Royston Drenthe who scored from a free-kick 2-1.

Young Oranje stayed on top of the Belgium team, but in the 70st minute it was a lucky shot from the left hand side – by Pocognoli – which surprised goalie Vermeer… 2-2.

Although Portugal easily beat Israel, the draw for Belgium meant the second spot in the group. Belgium now has to face Serbia. Holland has to wait which team will become second in Group B, either England, Italy or Czechie.

First time in a long while that I was actually rooting for NL. You guys came into the tournament focused. The first game is the most important and Portugal was let down by their coach. They showed their worth against Isreal, but it was too late.

Couldn’t you guys hold on or score another goal? You know it’s a crime that PT isn’t in the semis. It’s a shame for the tournament and football in general but there is no room for mistakes at this level.

Congratulations and best of luck in the next round.

Forca Portugal!

Thank you… I am happy that Holland and Belgium didn’t really make a deal… That is sooo bad. It’s a shame you guys are out, but there are so many fine nations and competition is fierce…

Next year :-)

was an ok match… we played ok.. Babel was decent, Righters was ok…Drenthe played ok, not very impressed with Vermeer…made a terrible mistake with the second goal…deRidder is just for show, he sucks!

was impressed by Ryan Donk (im telling you his our new star defender in the future, this guy just has it) and with Pieters (played right back)and Bakal who played in a central role and played fine

the belgiums have a very good side (its been a while since Belgium had one) but their goalie was a laugh..what a bad player he is..unbelievable…

it was clear that after the 2-2 the game was over…we were not going to take anymore risks (deHaan wanted to stay groupleaders and stay in Heerenveen (deHaans hometown btw))..im glad for Belgium, Port. should have beaten Belgium before…

well; really think we have a strong group of young upcoming players…esp. like their mentality..they look like winners

just for laughs, check this link…theyre funny guys aswel, this was on live tv the other day during an interview with Foppe deHaan:

Goose, where do you see Oranje end in this tournament? Who “good” are they compared to other teams? Care to share?

@Jan; this is a great generation..very good mentally and good physical…some real great talents like Donk and Waterman (maybe Drenthe) Zuiverloon Vlaar etc. all good

have seen some other teams and ill say that Oranje is favorite, not only cause we play at home but they just look very strong (like they did last year),
looked at the Eng-Ser match yesterday, nothing to worrie about, Eng have a good, quick team but they dont look to be too smart…would sursprise me if they loose to Eng… (btw those Serbs are racist idiots, embarressing to hear)
think a final Holland-Belgium is most likely (i know that Belgium beat Serbia few months ago away from home), these Belgiums have a great generation too; Martens, denBeele, deMul etc., only their goalie is a laugh, just shoot on goal and youll score!

im very possitive about the future of our beloved Oranje when i look at the youngsters ‘banging on the door’

next Eng; well show them, mark my words
