Why don’t we just try it with 4-4-2: Dutch coaches on Oranje
The coaches in the Dutch Eredivisie have their own opinion on the tactics for Oranje. Here are some quotes:
“My objective is not to understand Marco van Basten. He has a different reference-field. Like Cruyff and Van Hanegem he is sometimes hard to understand. Those guys were so extremely good on the field, that their thoughts and ideas are sometimes tough to follow.”
Roda JC-trainer Raymond Atteveld
“I try to follow his thoughts, but sometimes I can’t. If you play Raf van der Vaart on the right and Kuyt on the left, I really really wonder what the idea behind that is…”
Heracles-trainer Ruud Brood.
“I understand him perfectly and let’s be honest, he did get some amazing results!”
Ajax-trainer Henk ten Cate about Van Basten.
“I doubt the decisions Marco makes, regularly. But I also admire his tenacity and steadfastness…”
FC Groningen-trainer Ron Jans.
“Why not play with two strikers? What is the big deal? Our best players – Van Nistelrooy, Van Persie, Seedorf and Robben – need to play and these guys play 4-4-2.”
Excelsior-trainer Ton Lokhoff.
“I do not understand why van Basten clings on to the 4-3-3 system. Maybe he thinks he can surprise his opponents?”
Vitesse-trainer Aad de Mos.
“We do not have a big chance in winning the title in 2008 at the EC. And that has many reasons. For one, we can’t play a series of good matches in a row.”
Again Aad De Mos.
“Seedorf hasn’t had the chance to show why he is the the Big Boss in one of the world’s best teams. That’s strange. France doesn’t keep Henry on the bench. Germany doesn’t bench Ballack?”
Again Lokhoff.
“Let’s make up his report after the EC and let’s assess his results then. Until that time, we should allow Marco to do his thing.”
NEC-trainer Mario Been.
,,Of course it’s possible to snatch the title at the EC with Van Basten as coach!”
VVV-trainer André Wetzel.

im so glad tenCate ‘gets’Marco.. what a wanker…
Jan , did you forget to translate some lines??

Ten Cate is kind of the same thing as van Basten… like a school teacher. Got guts, maybe too much, but not much else. It takes you a bit but doesnt win you any titles.

You see vanBasten as a school teacher?? think vanGaal en Adriaanse are more the teacher type (think both actually have a diploma to teach gym(dont know the english word)
i would say tenCate is just talk, Marco doenst seem to communicate at all

Well maybe I expressed myself a little wrong. No, not that type of teacher. Well, I think he actually does learn the players some skills, but what I really meant was that he has the same semi-nazi mentality as many school teachers. No feets on the table and so on, you know. He doesnt give the players much freedom and doesnt seem to treat them like adults.

Dutch friends… why is Cambuur Leeuwardens club shield so incredibly ugly?

Ten Cate is making Ajax become a Spanish club, whoever take the club after him has to clean up many things

Yeah I sort of agree… most of his signings is just bad. Gabri was a hit though I must say, good player.
Btw, PSV is only fielding one Dutch player tonight and five on the bench. I hope Feyenoord or AZ will grab a CL spot for next season.

van Basten is a limited coach now. He has a lot to learn and he would better start being more flexible or every player will perform below par under him.
But I wish him all the best at Oranje and whatever he does because he has given dutch foobtball a lot of things and fame around the football world but you can´t live of your past. Now he is the coach of the national team and he has to get results and if he qualifies to Euro 2008 and doesn´t deliver there then his time as coach at the Netherlands will be remembered as a failure.
I don´t think that a 4th place would be bad for him but anything less than that is useless. And if he wants to be remembered for good as our national coach he will have to win the title but I se that very difficult to happen because the team is playing worse and worse each game.
It is true we don´t have the defense that many top football nations have but let´s be honest, Germany had a pretty bad defense this past World Cup and they almost reached the final. Brazil always has pretty bad defenders but their commitment to the team, their tactical game plan, their players and the coach always look for the same objective. And a very important team, Brazíl´s coaches always field their best players at World Cups because they want to win the trophy and if they end second place it is a total failure for them. I remember Romario was ejected for the World Cup 1998 and 2002 but he was a very difficult person and the caoches and his colleagues never liked him but that was just one isolated case…In van Basten´s team there many cases that have been like Romario´s during his reing:
Seedorf, Davids, Makaay, Ruud, Kromkamp, Zenden, van Bommel are justo some examples of players that have had or have problems with Mr van Basten. Axing some of your best players from the team does a lot of damage to the team´s morale and the boat can sink if he continues handling his players like that. I do hope he understands this because we really want a team with unit and spirit on the pitch becasue if not you can have all the talent on the field but the results will be miserable if the team´s spirit is not right.
Like I said, I don´t like how van Basten is doing as our coach but hopefully he learns fast because Euro 2008 is getting closer and I don´t want to see our team with a ridiculous performance like it happened in Germany.
Hup Holland!
