Where is Dick Nanninga anyway?

May 22nd, 2007 | By: Jan | 7 Comments »

That name came up, the other day. And I can’t forget him. I mean, he was a mediocre football-player. Or maybe less than that. But he was strong and a very courageous header. So he went with the Dutch team to the WC in 1978 and he was the one who scored in that ridiculous finals. The one where Snakeman Rensenbrink hit the post. Remember that one? So Nanninga had his 15 minutes of fame. But…where is he now?

Let’s make it another Pop Quiz… What sort of job(s) did Dick Nanninga have?

I love this game :-)

i remember rensenbrink when rensenbrink hit the post. nanninga replaced johnny rep who missed 3-4 occasions. at the end of oranje-germany he got a red card for a ridiculous reason. he shew something to the referee (i think barreto was his name and he was from uruguay) who misunderstood nanninga’s gest.. this finale was quite ridiculous,gonella obviously helped argentina (still think ardiles was a fantastic player).

but i don’t know what the hell dick nanninga is doing right now:-)

heres what i found out;

Nanninga; 15 caps (WC78 and EC80), 6 goals.. also played shortly in Hong Kong and ended his career at MVV (Maastricht) in 1986
he was one of the fasted players to get red carded for Oranje after being subbed at a game against (west) Germany after 5 minutes!

had a possibility to play for Ajax but he declined cause he had a flowershop!

he now has a bar in Belgium Limburg and is also a salesman..

quit a story, thank Ishmael..(lol)

I heard Dick Nanninga will play at tomorrow´s champions league final instead of Seedorf in a program conducted by Ishmael, the great soccer specialist. Hehehe, enjoy guys, Ishmael, it is a joke!. Never mind, don´t take it personal, here we come in to have fun, and any views you have are valid and ok. Greetings to all!

Hahahaha…that’s funny. It is! Football is supposed to be fun. Typical players humour is always a bit cynical and rude, isn’t it?

What other great but forgotten heroes do you guys remember?

Thank you… It’s nice to know Dick is doing good. Other heroes from the old days. I always liked Kees Kist. Peter Houtman. And Peter de Voss. I saw Oranje play England one time in Wembley and I think Jon Peters was a player who was reelly good. He scores.
