What To Do With Kalou

The Feyenoord striker is making an 11th hour plea for accelerated Dutch citizenship to join Holland’s World Cup side. Marco van Basten has already told the courts that Kalou will be a part of the team if he is granted his citizenship.

Kalou was born in the Irovy Coast and was offerred a spot on their World Cup team. Bonaventure, Salomon Kalou’s brother is the captain of Ivory Coast, yet Kalou still hopes for Dutch citizenship. Ivory Coast and Holland meet in group C this summer. We could have Kalou vs Kalou in group C as the Ivory Coast and Holland square off.

I’m still not sure what to make of this. The guy has been living in Holland for only 3 years. I hate to doubt the kid’s intentions, but it seems like he just wants to play for a better club. The abandoned brother plot line reads like something out of Dream Team. It would make the Holland v Ivory Coast match a whole lot more interesting.

In the end, I’m not sure how good this is for Kalou’s career. There are so many talented Dutch strikers already, he may not make it on the pitch. He could be the star on his home team. Even though Ivory Coast are unlikely to go far in the finals, Kalou would be the featured striker for at least 3 group matches. Still plenty of time to show the world what your capable of.

I can’t believe this! Three years in Holland doesn’t qualify him for dutch citzenship. This is horrible, if you ever want respect in football play for the ivory coast. You should be ashamed of yourself.
