Weekend Wrap-up

April 24th, 2006 | By: Mike | No Comments »

After a two-day pilgrimage to the land of my birth I’m back and ready to go. After Van Basten named his squad on Friday there were a few eyebrows raised when Makaay was left out in favour of Klass Jan Huntelaar. I wasn’t surprised at all. Re-read my comments about him at the end of the squad announcement for my reasons. Roy is the optimistic type though and still holds out hope after two good consecutive performances.

On Thursday hopeful Dutch defender Kew Jaliens scored a consolation goal for AZ Alkmaar in the play offs for Champion’s League berths. Johnny Heitinga and Klaas Jan Huntelaar each got one for Ajax as they beat Feyenoord 3-0 with Romeo Castelen being sent off at the end of the match.

Edgar Davids was sent off for Tottenham against Arsenal and Robben’s second half introduction couldn’t help Chelsea recover against Liverpool
