Weekend results…
Just a random overview of football action from around the world… Well, England, Spain and Holland really…
AZ won again! The number 12 of the Dutch competition…well…the remain the number 12, but at least they won.
Ajax won their first match under Adrie Koster, 0-1 against angstgegner FC Utrecht. Huntelaar scored the only goal, but Ajax could’ve scored 5 times and they played a good match. Koster, realizing he didn’t have any offensive midfielders left after the transfers of Sneijder and Perez, refused to play with three holding midfielders and allowed Siem de Jong his debut in midfield. The 18 year old played a good game. Gregory van der Wiel, another youngster, replaced the injured Stam. It must be said: if you look at the list of injured players in Amsterdam, it’s a miracle that they’re still in the top-5: Jaap Stam, Edgar Davids, Maarten Stekelenburg, Leonardo, Mitea, Tomas Vermaelen, Urby Emanuelson and Kennedy Bakircioglu.
Feyenoord lost against an agressive FC Twente. Feyenoord started the match sloppy and never really recovered. Van Marwijk must be hoarse already, giving so-called “thunderspeeches” at half time.
PSV won their match too and are the new leaders in the competition.
In Spain, Henry and Messi scored for Barca against Almeria, 2-0. Messi came on after 75 minutes.
Real Madrid won 3-1 against Deportivo. Ruud van Gol scored the equalizer in the 7th minute from the penalty spot. He missed one in the last CL match, but took revenge. Raul and Robinho scored the late winners.
Sevilla comes back with a victory over Valencia, 3-0. Boulah started and ended the match on the bench.
In England, Liverpool and Arsenal played 1-1. Gerrard scored the first goal, Cesc equalized late in the second half. Man United the same number of points as Arsenal but Arsenal has one more game to play.
The Spurs also lost without Martin Jol against Blackburn 1-2. Ooijer played the 90 minutes for Blackburn.
