Weekend action; top 3 wins their games…

And this is why some people love the pre-season shenanigans: their fave clubs win games against lesser opponents
.
Although Sporting Lisbon can’t be seen as “lesser”. The Portuguese club will be Twente’s opponent in the CL qualification round. Feyenoord played them this weekend in the warm up and won impressively: 2-1.
Canadian wunderkind Jonathan de Guzman was back in the squad after a year of injuries. The neo international scored the equalizer and gave the assist for Makaay’s winner. Ron Vlaar played half a game and impressed. The only setback was Georginhio Wijnaldum’s calf injury.
De Guzman: “I am so happy to be back. Last year was dramatic. I look back at it and see where I went wrong. My transfer to Man City was canceled at the last moment and I had aggression and frustration in my body, probably leading to my rare red card and my injuries later. Stupid. I’ve learned from that. I’d love to play for a bigger club in Europe and I will one day, but for now I’ll focus on making this season in Rotterdam count.”
Mario Been: “Fantastic to work with Jon. On training you can see how good he really is. He’s a phenomenon. So gifted and so strong… A joy for any coach.”
PSV played a warm up against Sivasspor from Turkey. PSV won 3-0, but did so against nine player since two were red carded early in the game. The ref even canceled 20 minutes of the first half due to all sorts of unruly stuff going on. Dszudszak scored the first, in the second half Amrabat and Koevermans put the final score on the board. Engelaar and Affelay started in midfield.

Ajax finished their training session in England with a 4 -0 win over Southampton. Captain Suarez scored two, Alderweireld and Zeegelaar scored the other two. Coming weekend, the Amsterdam Tournament is on with Atletico Madrid and Benfica.
FC Twente lost their warm up against Swansea City ( 3-1 ) , while NEC’s game was canceled due to hooligan behavior.
Man United’s friendly in Indonesia was canceled due to the terrorist bombings in Djakarta, but SAF’s team did play in Kuala Lumpur against a Malaysian squad. Michael Owen scored his first goal for the Red Devils.

Feyenoord shud play a 4-2-3-1
——-Keeper and Back Four———
—-van Bronkhorst–Landzaart——–
Wijnaldum——Tomasson—–de Guzman—–
————–Makaay————–
Potentially a very strong team, as long as they all remain healthy.

Great to know about Feyenoord. I do hope the team can fight for the trophy at Eredivisie and KNVB Beker.
BTW: one thing with which I care about is the Stadionclub search for a goalie. My question: is it necessary? I do think Been could put Erwin Mulder under the posts.
OK, I know he wants to loan Mulder, but it seems he got the gifts of goalkeeping. He’s talented. He could be the first-choice, as Van Dijk is too close of retiring and Darley, a bet to the future. Yep, Mulder is also young, but I believe that, if he plays, he can be the 3rd choice to Bert on South Africa.
Hey, Jan, our official Feyenoorder from here, whatcha think?

Hi Felipe, I think Mulder has the goods but is so young and therefore mentally vulnerable. Being a goalie is different from being a field player. Makaay can lose the ball in a silly way but when you see the goal that comes from that, sometimes in the highlights you don’t even see Makaay losing that ball. What you do see is the goalie missing the ball. And when a goalie makes a mistake, it’s almost always lethal. So young players can go up into the team and be part of that team performance, whereas a goalie is either a hero, either invisible or the schmuck of the week.
I think Been doesn’t want to throw Mulder to the lions too early.
Also, good goalies need to be leaders/coaches. They have the game in front of them and need to coach the back four. It takes experience to do so. A technically great keeper can still be mediocre when you add things like coaching and footwork.
Feyenoord wants to sign Aussie Joey Didulica, who’s now AZ’s second goalie. But the guy is world class! The ony reason he doesn’t play is due to injuries. He lost his spot to insanely talented and charismatic Romero, which is AZ’s main goalie.
If Feyenoord signs him, they will have a top goalie. International experience. A beast in the box. Courageous and great reflexes.
Joey wants to come to Feyenoord and Feyenoord wants him. Now it’s a matter of finances. I believe Didu is only 30 years old or something. Has 4 great years left in him for sure, the ideal time for Mulder to learn and develop.
Once they have him onboard, I’m confident Been can field a very good team:
————Didulica—————
Fernandez – Vlaar (Bahia) – Hofland – De Cler
——–El Ahmadi – Gio (Fer)——-
Wijnaldum—-De Guzman—-Biseswar(Bruins)
————Tomasson (Makaay/Cisse)–
Not bad!!!

Elia is a world class winger. I think he will dominate. So what do you guys think will he crack the line up at the WC? we could have many different lineups depending on the match.
ALL OUT ATTACK DEPENDABLE LINE UP(KNOCKOUT ROUNDS)
—–Goalie—– GOALIE DEFENSE
-D-E-F-E-N-S-E- V BOMMEL DE JONG
WESLEY–V BOMMEL ROBBEN SNEIJDER KUYT
ROBBEN-VDV-ELIA HUNTELAAR
—HUNTELAAR—
So guys what do you think? Which players should play depending on the circumstance?

Sorry guys didnt come out right
so its ALL OUT ATTACK
GOALIE DEFENSE
SNEIJDER V BOMMEL
ROBBEN VDV ELIA
HUNTELAAR
i think this would work because we have 2 perfect wingers with many playmakers on the pitch
comment respond what do you guys think

and then its DEPENDABLE LINE UP (like for knockout games)
Goalie defense
v bommel de jong
robben vdv(RVP) sneijder
huntelaar
I think this would work too as we have 2 good holding mids as well as attacking flair. I think RVP should be a sub or starter in each formation as well as kuyt

i think BVM will have a tough time in WC2010 coz if the players like Deguzman,Elia,Castelen are stay fit for whole the season ,i am sure they all are going to play fantastic games and we can see their quality.even if he avoides them for kuyt, afaleey, haiselink, babel it would become a great disaster for us.i hope Ron vlaar and luirink will play a remarkable season for their clubs. We need these two diffenders very badly to win WC2010.

I feel sad knowing that MU have cancelled their friendly match. FYI, the Indonesian All Star team (the team that will play MU), stayed in the same hotel that was bombed. Lucky for them, they left the hotel on 07:00 for morning training. The bom exploded on 07:40……

Bobotoh – thats incredible news !! Hope no one in your circle was hurt. This puts a dent into any World Cup hosting bids – however it will be forgotten by the time the selection comes around and hopefully no more. I am scheduled to go to Bali next month

Wow, I watched Barazite in the Arsenal-Barnet game and he reminds me of Zlatan a lot in his moving and technique. I think Bert will have it tough since 4 regular internationals are struggling for a place at Real or a move, Babel still lacking playing time, and these guys like Barazite, Elia, Emanuelson, De Guzman, V.Wolfswinkel, Beerens, Wijnaldum are obviously seriously knocking at his door. I for one hope to see Barazite coming in the Arsenal squad for this season.
BTW, bad luck still haunts Boulahrouz as he is out for 6 weeks due to a dislocation of his right arm, and the needed surgery. He’ll miss an oranje game as well.

I’m curious to see if V.Marwijk will select a replacement for Boulah, and if so, who will it be, maybe Loovens.
And Club Brugge played AZ and won 1-0, with Donk remarkably almost his old self again, as if the previous 2 seasons never happened.

@Bobotoh: I have been at that hotel several times, and it is absolutely beautiful. The service is excellent, and people are very friendly. I have never had a problem visiting Indonesia and it is a beautiful country. I also have several friends there, both locals and foreigners living there. I feel very sorry reading about these bombings as it brings up very bad memories for me of September 11 2001 here in New York. I am glad your national team escaped and I sincerely hope this nonsense stops. It will not help your efforts in trying to land a WC as Carlos points out. That is very unfortunate.
Keep on posting Bobotoh. I like your posts.

@carlos, enjoy your stay in Bali! I am proud that people still want to come to Bali. Hope that everything is fine….

How old is Barazite? I have heard about this player for two or three years now. He only plays during pre-season. When the competitive match begins, he is not there.
If he is that good, I hope he will become a regular player this season, replacing Adebayor. Wenger always needs a tall central striker.

@Bobotoh: The Arse also has Bendtner. I think he will certainly be ahead in the pecking order with Barazite.

Barazite…what are the stats on that guy? Haven’t heard much about him.

Barazite is 19 years old. He went on loan to Derby last season and scored like 2 goals I think

We could have used Jonathon de Guzman against Honduras in the Gold Cup.
We (Canada)got stiffed and eliminated by the Salvadorian Ref. and lost the game 1-0.
Go to minute 2:45 in the above video and tell me if a penalty kick ought to be awarded.

That was one ridiculous decision by the ref. Jeez… In futsal, maybe. But this? A joke!
