Wave of injuries at Oranje: Robin and Heitinga out!

October 7th, 2008 | By: Jan | 15 Comments »

Damn, that Robben is stealing my thunder again!

Robin van Persie and John Heitinga presented themselves at the Oranje training camp. With injuries. Both players won’t be fit for Iceland.

Van Persie is suffering a hamstring injury, while Heitinga hasn’t recovered from his knee injury. Both players were unable to participate in Oranje’s first training session.

Nigel de Jong has an elbow injury but did train. Henk Timmer hopes to be fit later in the week. Wesley Sneijder is still coming back from his injury but will miss Iceland.

Stekelenburg is old with a bad shoulder, Robben is plagued by his hamstring and he lost his teddy bear and Vennegoor, Boulahrouz and Bouma are out as well.

Bert van Marwijk will decide later this week if and who he will call up to replace the injured players.

Maybe Kuyt instead of Afellay, and maybe Sneijder moving into the middle and pushing van der Vaart out wide.

Kuyt will get a nod before Babel. Afellay will play.

Seems like we’ll have a tough 2 matches. Up front the injuries are managable; Huntelaar, Babel, Afellay, v.d.Vaart and Kuyt are good enough to score some goals, but with Mathijsen and Ooijer in the back. I think V.d.Sar will have plenty to do.
I think V.Marwijk could try V.Bommel as a Libero, too bad Heitinga is injured though. Don’t think Sneijder is fit enough to start.

De Jong-(De Zeeuw or Engelaar?)
Kuyt-Afellay-V.d.Vaart

Some News : Kromkamp has been called into the squad and perhaps Wesley may play against Iceland. I think Wesley will come in for 20-30 min in second half !

good news that kromkamp is back. anyway,i think that after such a disaster performance made by heitinga last saturday psychologically is better if he doesn’t play now. even if he wasn’t injured.
i’m a little bit nervous because our two opponents do not play good football but they are very physcic. it will be two battles and oranje doesn’t perform very well in this kind of games.

he ferenc! still alive my friend?

i have always believed in Kromkamp but to be fair, last few times i saw him play he was terrible, hes crosses were very poor and his alround passing was pathetic…he does seem to make fewer defensive mistakes
