Van Persie scores Bergkamp-goal!

Glenn Hoddle was more of an artist than an athlete. He painted masterpieces on the pitch when active as a player and when watching a game he turns into a poet when he sees something magical. ”
“That was a Bergkamp goal by Robin van Persie,” the former England manager says. “This is why people come to the stadiums. The first touch on the chest, in his turn he places the ball with his strong left in the stride of his weaker right and in one flowing movement he finishes the ball. Unstoppable. This is art!” This sensational goal in the clash between Arsenal and Liverpool was enough for Van Persie to earn the Man of the Match title.
Arsenal stumbled over the minions this season and has lost contact with the top 4. But it did demonstrate class in the CL and against big guns like Man United and Chelsea. Both title candidates got beaten and Liverpool was the next victim.
But, a blunder in defense, allowing Keane his wonderstrike, and a debatable red card for Adebayor made sure Kuyt and Babel traveled back to Liverpool with a point.
Twice, Adebayor got yellow carded for guarding the ball too clumsy, so it seems.
Arsene Wenger almost lost it while the 60.000 Gunners on the stands were out of their minds. The fans yelled “wanker” for more than 30 minutes.
Van Persie didn’t see what happened in those challenges. “I asked him in the dressing room…what happened out there, man? He said he didn’t even hit those players. It’s a shame, but at the same time, we’ve shown we can play great football and we can fight.”
It seems Wenger gets a new war-chest filled with euros to add more players to his selection this winter break. The goal is to win the CL this season and bridge the gap in the EPL. Danny Fiszman, the influential board member at Arsenal, wants Wenger to spend 45 million euros. “Chelsea and Liverpool won’t be able to go out there and sign new players. They can’t find the cash. We are cash rich and this is the moment for us to strike.”

Still in a very Christmas mood. Listen to this. They mention Robben among many others. It is pretty funny:

Can’t argue the brilliance of VP’s goal, especially on the replay from directly behind behind him. Good one to go into the Holidays on…(though perhaps not as good as Finn’s party…but let me echo Carlos, Finn, Ferenc, Tiju (from another thread)and others and say that however far you travel this season, whether a mile or a thousand miles, I hope you all travel safely, wisely and hopefully.

Jan…Are we going to have the 2008 TOP 10 Memorable Moments of Oranje Football?
I can see our blitzkrieg of Italy and loss to Russia being in the TOP 5!
The Oranje raised our hopes during the first three games of the Euro just to later crush them in the knockout round.
By the way, I can’t view the video for its no longer available…due to copyright?

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/2190804//
The above link shows the video. An amazing goal…He smashed the ball.
“Not a lot of players can do what he did here” commented by skyports.
An absolute beauty from set up to finish! What a Van Persie Showmanship!
…Although a Pompous Braggart!

I must confess: I don’t think the most beautiful of it was the goal. I believe the most cool was the coldness and the calm Robin had in front of the goal.
Anyway, it proves how great he is. I believe he became more calm than his times at Rotterdam. Less arguments, no raping cases…
That’s how he should always be. This way Bob van Persie will be prouder of his boy…
Merry Xmas to you all! I love the blog, never late to remember it!

Ferenc buddy do let me know dates etc when you visit Sngapore OK, let me wine and dine you (and partner) in this great city. WE have 4 dedicated football channels on TV showing all the major leagues incl Eredivisie etc. But mainly people love Singapore for the food – looking forward to it ![]()
back to vP, did anyone notice his actions after he scored where he brushed dust off his shoulders as if to say ” Gosh thats a small amount of bother from such big named defenders” very cheeky !

@Carlos: thx, it will be great! singaporean food is really fantastic, this year i spent 2 days there and the chili crab is one of the best dishes i have ever eaten (and i fell in love with the city). i’ll be there between the 15th and 18th of february, staying in a hotel in little india (i’ll go to my winter holiday the 20th of january to south-east asia and finish it at singapore).
you’re better placed there than we in hungary: we don’t have any eredivisie covering, only psv-ajax and ajax-psv each year and some other psv games against lesser teams because there is a hungarian guy (dzsudzsak at psv). we have pl,liga, serie a and bundesliga but i only watch la liga and sometimes pl (great games like arsenal-pool) and rarely seria a,never bundesliga.
i watched several times robin’s goal. really vergkamp-like. fantastic individual action, but nasri’s pass was a marvel too. very sad for arsenal that cesc is out for 3 months.

ferenc – Great! maybe Jan can fly up from Oz too ? I’ll treat you to Chilli Crab with a fantastic wine to go with it (think Finn is jealous already !!) hahaha….but we’ll try some other Singapore Specials ok !

Just read Fabregas maybe out for 4 months – sad , I am a big fan altho must say that he has NOT been at his top last few games. I miss Rosicky at Arsenal and what is Flamini doing at AC ? Maybe Arsenal can get Seedorf on loan…. see how he fares but if I was Arsene my target would be Schaars, perfect maybe even better replacement for Fab !

@Carlos: You just had to rub that one in, didn’t you? Chilli crab, salt & pepper crab, great wine, football on 4 screens, good company with Ferenc…oh shit…I may just have to make some excuse up and try to join you lot. 15th – 18th Feb will be hard for me, but I like the odd challenge, and if the oil prices stay low I may even get a cheap flight…
That would be fun as hell though!!! I will have to stay away from Four Floors of Whores as I would have to bring the girlfriend…

Finn as mentioned you are always welcome
plus girlfriend(s), bring golf clubs if u want !! Any more “volunteers” ?

Wow…Carlos, Ferenc, Finn…do they serve Goose in Singapore
?
Sounds like a plan, Stan!
I loved that Nasri pass alright. I do think Dennis scored them like that, but more in his Ajax days than at Arsenal. At the Gunners, I remember the banana shots from the box edges and the little flicks in the box ( a la the Argentina goal).
With Ajax he had many of those Jonk passes, one-touch-control finishes…
I will post some “looking back at 2008″ posts… Watch this space

Guys:
Stop talking football for a minute hehe!!!. I wish you a Merry Christmas to all of you and a happy new year. I am sure every one of us will have a great 2009 and hopefully the Oranje and our great players too!
A big hug for all of you from Yucatán, México and I will drink “at least” a whisky for all of you guys. Ciao!

Happy Holidays all!
It’s been a while since I’ve been able to visit the board. Good to see the Oranje love alive and well. Plenty of Xmas cheer to all.
Couldn’t help but comment on the vP – Bergkamp comparison (love them both): the fluidity of vP’s movement and his superb control of the ball are all Bergkamp signatures, dare I say an underlying theme to Dutch goal scoring in general. The difference I noticed was in the sheer power of vP’s shot. Even off his weak foot he drilled that shot, Dennis seemed more inclined to pass or bend the ball to where the keeper wasn’t. And of course the dead give away at the end; Dennis rarely celebrated a goal, no prepared gestures or routines, just an occasional fist pump. The man was/is cool as ice. Great goal, flattering comparison.
On another note. I love Kuyts work ethic and the man has proved himself, and has finally gotten the majority of the English press off his back. However, he’s still prone to some nasty tunnel vision. Twice in that game he worked his tail off for a ball only to make the most terrible pass. One that nearly cost Liverpool. Strange how the thing that makes him such a great and stand out Dutch player – work ethic and hustle – also seems to be his Achilles heal.
Cheers and thanks for the footy talk.

Thank you, Mario, although I do not appear on this blog very much anymore. I did want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year as well. This has been a very interesting year for Dutch football, but also a very important and perhaps life changing year for the world at large. To say that we are all going through some new and challenging growing pains is to put it mildly. As we live within these world changes, I think perhaps it might be time to give thanks and gratitude for the freedom we have to experience football and “worry” how well our team will do. Professional football can happen only because so much else in our cultures is able to provide opportunities for us and for the economic systems that help make our cultures viable.
So, in gratitude for Jan, for all of you, for the Netherlands and its football, and for a world that allows all of this to happen–MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A WISH FOR A HAPPY, PEACEFUL 2009.

I don’t know if the Dutch know…But We Love The Netherlands, even though we are not from there and never have been.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Well spoken Bob (as always…). It’s good to be reminded of this many times…
I’m looking forward to a wonderful 2009, The Year of the Ox

And I thought 2009 was the Year of the Goose…

Nice goal by RVP. We have 2 feet of snow here. Merry Christmas! 12:01 EST.

Just wanted to pop in late at night here to say “Merry Christmas everybody”! I hope you enjoy it with family and friends.

i got a very nice present from my mother: chris hunt – football encyclopedia (from the beginning to 2008),second edition. really good book, lots of picture.some deep analyses about the history of strategy, play systems, etc (in hungarian). the importance of total football is always underlined. i obviously started with oranje/ajax/barca-related pages. there is a chapter about coaches and the 2 most detailed careers is: sir alex and rinus michels. great! i spend my time between reading this book and playing spore.
Carlos: it seems great,i’m sure we’ll have very good time in singapore. i’m obviously open toward any local food specialities:-) (i’ll arive from manila very late the 15th feb,so i guess we’ll meet the 16th – anyway we have plenty of time until february. i always have notebook with me, so i can use the net everywhere and am reachable). how christmas is over there? i have never spent christmas in tropical countries.
Finn: it would be nice to see you in singapore, even if you won’t go to see orchard towers;-) (maybe geylang? haha…)
i hope all of you have a very nice christmas and enjoy it.
there is some snow here in budapest. not too much but nice: sunshine and snow.
