van Persie on form

May 26th, 2006 | By: Mike | 8 Comments »

Robin van Persie is making his push for a starting role in the World Cup. van Basten plans on using his preferred eleven against Cameroon tomorrow as opposed to starting a ‘B’ team and letting them get the confidence beaten out of them (I’m talking to you Sven).

with both robben and van persie on the pitch at once, we could see some pretty dazzling runs down the wings (and maybe more of a supply line for rvn)…i wonder if we’ll miss kuyt’s finishing though. for all of the scoring chances van persie creates for himself (and others) he doesn’t seem to have the clinical finish of a pure striker. just my 2cents.

My 2cents: v Persie is more the heir to V Basten. Similar technical skills, they sort of look similar even. Neither can score ordinary goals, only gems. V Persie scored a lot in Holland but he does tend to want to make only beautiful goals. He’s got a great free-kick and like Bassie can play striker and midfielder. Only thing is, he is a mediocre header.

I remember watching VP at Feyenoord before his move to Arsenal and he was full of talent but a little big headish.

Jan, you are right, he does want to score only beautiful goals. When was his last tap in?

Poor lad. Was raised by his artist father, every one at Feyenoord treated him as a God, it was not easy for him… Van Basten’s dad was very critical and tough on marco and so was Cruyff. That helped shaping his mentality. vPersie was spoiled to the bone. But…we need rebels on the pitch, don’t we? Cantona, Totti, v Hanegem, Keane, Gascoigne…

v persie us a very good player but always seems to have ups and downs. on the right flank it’ll be very interesting. he have the option to cut in field and take left-foot shots.

But what about the defense? will it be able to stop the likes of riquelme, kezman, messi, kalou or drogba?

Yrr, im prett convinced it will kervin. Defensive midfield is experienced, and we have van der sar to keep the back four in line, and ofcourse we have the likes of mark van bommel, a good defender, and giovanni. If everyone plays as a team, they will not get through the defence. Van Basten ofcourse put this into account, and made a ballanced team of experience and youngsters. We will see how that will work out against cameroon, who are actually a better team that ivory coast.

van Persie is on fire tonight!

He is absolutely all over the place, driving the Cameroonians crazy.

Kuyt has got a mountain to climb I’m afraid, the poor chap.

Oranje!
