Van Persie: beauty and results!
Robin van Persie recently emphasized the importance of finishing this season with gold to his team mates. That Arsenal is revered all over the world for their beautiful football is wonderful, but doesn’t have any value if they can’t win a prize. “We need to win at least one big prize,” Van Persie tells Reuters. “If we can’t, our season was a failure and all that great play was for nothing. We are in a wonderful position to make this our year and that also applies to seasons to come.”
Arsenal is still in the race for the title in England and the CL victory. The Gunners did lose the lead they had over the competition due to four draws in a row. Van Persie doesn’t think they should now play the underdog-part. “I’m not a dreamer. We can win in England and in Europe. Why not? We have the quality. We have to perform as one unit and keep the faith. With your mental strength, you can do it. And I hope to finally be able to contribute.”
Due to injuries Van Persie only played 10 of the 30 games in the EPL. Partly his own fault. “I was too hungry to return. I wanted to sooo badly. I never ever had a muscle injury before, I didn’t know if what I felt was normal or not. I was in pain a bit, but neglected it and played on.”
On top of that injury, Van Persie got a virus. “Man, I was sick. I couldn’t even get out of bed. Couldn’t eat, I felt like dying.” Now, Van Persie is 100%
fit. “They only thing I miss is rhythm. Mentally, I am prepared as ever.”
