Van Nistelrooy nominated for player of the year!

October 10th, 2007 | By: Jan | 8 Comments »

Ruud van Nistelrooy is the only Dutch player nominated on the list of 30 players for Player of the Year 2007. All national team managers and captains of national teams are eligible to chose. The Real Madrid striker will learn on December 17 whether he replaces team mate Fabio Cannavaro. The latter is also included on the list, published by the FIFA last Wednesday.

Barcelona is the club with most nominated players: Messi, Ronaldinho, Deco, Samuel Eto’o, Thierry Henry, Rafael Marquez and Lilliam Thuram are amongst the ones wishing to win.

Johan Cruyff sends a complaint letter out.Ruud!!!

clarence should be on the list. even a hungarian newspaper wroto that about clarence as well as about totti, fabregas and sergio ramos who were not selected neither. rafa and thuram have not done too much this season. i would like to see iniesta instead of them.

The list is strange. And Ferenc… I think you are overrating Seedorf a bit. He havent been playing well this season and wasnt very good last season either, though he tend to show brilliance in the most important games…

The list is strange though. Where is Totti? Where is Ibrahimovic? Why is Marquez on the list? And Thuram?! And Gattuso?

Seedorf could have easily been on the list, he won the champions league!! He along with kaka and inzaghi were in attack in the final. i think he played well throughout last season, but there seams to be a dip of form this year. how can barca be the club with most players on the list, they won nothing. manchester united won the league, and has 2 players in it… :S The list seems biased selecting the most famous players, instead of those who perfomed really well.

Again a mediocre player can not be the player of the year… I can not accept this, I will take him off the national team and banish him to Cyprus.

Look, our mediocre player is on the list of the best players. Therefore, our team must be the best team in the world.

I agree with you all about it being a strange list. The one I really don’t get is Henry… he was injured for like half of the year and didn’t do too much in the other half. I agree he is a great player - but when he’s on form, not when he’s injured in the stands! Is he a really great cheerer or what??

I’m going for Ruud! He just keeps getting better and better. Before at Man U he was just a goal machine, but that’s really all he was (can’t blame he too much, he didn’t have too many other attackers to really work with - selfish Ronaldo and inconsistent, try-to-do-everything-myself Rooney). But at Real he’s really been linking up well with Raul and the other attackers, and he’s added a whole new side to his game.
