Van der Vaart: never Bayern Munich

In an interview this week with Sport Bild in Germany, Rafael van der Vaart declared he’ll never play for Bayern Munich. “When I was ready to leave Ajax, my manager Soren Lerby (former Bayern Munich player and coach) talked to Bayern. They said no no no to me. They didn’t think I was good enough. Now I say no to them. I’ll never play for Bayern. Period.”

The midfield wizard declared it’s likely he’ll stay with HSV Hamburg for at least two seasons. “I don’t need a new contract. I am happy with what I get. I’ve got a clause in my contract, saying I can leave the club in 2009 for 1.5 Mio Euros. That’s worth a lot to me. And if that Spanish side, Real Madrid for instance, will come by I will go. No doubt about it.”

Van der Vaart, son of a Spanish mother, still sees Spain as the promised land.
