Van der Vaart: I will go for my chances!

June 14th, 2009 | By: Jan | 22 Comments »

Rafael van der Vaart is not impressed with the new big names at Real Madrid. He’ll fight for his chance until the winter break. “That’s a good moment to make up my mind.”

Van der Vaart is curious to learn what his new coach – Manuel Pellegrini – wants. “Villareal, where Pellegrini worked before, wanted to sign me twice in the past, so I take it he knows me and likes my style. It makes me curious… I’d love to meet him and see what his ideas are. Despite all the rumours, no one at Real contacted me to talk about my future. That will come later. I suppose…”

He is impressed with the approach of new chair Perez, who signed Kaka and C Ronaldo in a short time span. And striker David Villa is still high on the hitlist. “You have to pay some cash, but look at what you have,” jokes Van der Vaart. “This is proof again, how Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world.”

“For us, Dutch players, this could have ramifications, I can see that. Insecurity mounts when new players are signed, but I don’t mind. I’m pretty relaxed and ready to take them on.”

“Listen, I’ve got a five year deal in Madrid. When the board really wants me to leave, they need to tell me and I will try to find something else. Until then, I’m ready to roll. And I’ll make my mind up in the winter break. That six months before the WC and time enough to make new plans. I’d hit myself in the head if I wouldn’t try to get a position in the new team.”

Van der Vaart hopes the Valdano and Zidane – the new advisors to the Real board – saw him in action for Oranje against Iceland and Norway. The left footer was the Man of the Match in both games.

Recently, Valdano said in an interview that creative footballers are like the best perfumes: they come in small bottles. Barca has Xavi, Iniesta and Messi and at Real Sneijder and Van der Vaart aren’t 1.80 meter high. Other top notch midfielders like Cesc, Ribery and Essien aren’t giants either. Kaka is the exception with his 1.83 m height.

Van der Vaart does expect Real to find some defensive new signings as well. “Let’s be honest, our creative side of the team wasn’t too shabby to begin with. To balance the team out, I’d expect the board to find one or two extraordinary defenders. You’ll need them to actually win the CL.”

Honestly, If the Dutch players did not get much action from the season (besides Robben), then what makes people think that they’ll this comming season?

My guess is that we’ll see Dutch guys sitting on the bench for most of the time until the winter transfer window, then they’d decide to move, then their transfer values would go down…

I think the Dutchies are trying to sell their skin as high as possible. Now Real will need to make a move and they’ll lower the asking price to “help” the Dutchies move along. Which gives Raf and Co more options, I guess.

I think Raf plays it cool. PEllegrini always was a fan of Wes and Raf so who knows…

I really have to see C Ronaldo do well in Real. In ManU he had one of the toughest defensive lines behind him and Sir Alex kept them all focused.

The douchebag might now think he’s hotter than Jesus and act the part. Which could become his downfall….

The most interseting thing i am seeing in van der vaart is “HE IS A BIS MATCH PLAYER AND A TOUGH MATCH PLAYER HE IS TRUSTWORTHY IN CRUCUAL GAMES UNLIKE OTHER DUTCHIES WHAT A GAME HE PLAYED AGAINST A VERY VERY GOOD CZEC REPUBLIC IN 2006 AWAY MATCH.AND SO MANY TOOUGH AWAY MATCHES.

Jan is probably right. It would be illogical to assume that vdVaart would admit he’d want to leave even if Real wants him to. They probably discussed this with him, if other clubs know for a fact that he wants to leave and Real wants to get rid of him, his price drops, simple matter of demand vs supply. A club can ask more money if they can pretend to want to keep the player.

He’ll keep quiet until a deal is made.

It would be hilarious if V.d.Vaart would stay and play Ronaldo out of the team. I admire Rafael, I think they shouldn’t run away, instead go head to head and face the competition, let’s see how well Ronaldo, Alonso or Ribery would do, the real pressure is on them, not on the dutchies. The way i feel is, everything is still open, Pellegrini is unlikely to judge the players based on reputation or their name, he isn’t like that.
I think it’s worth to at least give it a try instead of running away like Perez wants them to, besides, like Raf says, he can always leave in winter break. I’m not too sure he is saying this as a tactical move.
Except for Drenthe, they all have enough quality to play for a topclub, now is their chance to show it and measure up to the supposed “best” players like Ronaldo, Kaka, and Ribery perhaps, if you are in a squad ranked second on world chart, well show it then. Besides in the Bundesliga, together with Diego and Ribery, V.d.Vaart was one of the absolute best around.

van der vaart should upload a tape of himself in our recent victories (and the liverpool game) and send them to the coach.

i noticed that when arjen robben plays for the national team any chance he missed he would get frustrated and thrash the air. even though it is annoying i think it shows how he wants to play well for us.

does he do it in Madrid?

every time he plays for us he really gives his all and their was an article here about him saying he wants to play well for oranje after scotland. I think he really is proud and works hard for us what do you guys think?

Robben is always frustrated when things don’t go the way he sees them in his mind. When the brilliant actions and beautifull goals/passes he thinks of don’t go as planned, he’s gets angry at himself, and it does show how much he wants to succeed, and his passion for football. When i see him play for oranje, I see someone who is proud of playing for his country, certainly when I see him fanatically tracking back and defending like he’s a leftback. I’m a fan, but, I do think he needs a full season to learn and develop into a more consistent player, and the possible Ballon d’Or winner he would like to be.

I agree with Alex – Robben always shows a lot of passion and drive to succeed. He’s always upset with himself whenever his shot/pass doesn’t work as he wanted it to. He also always looks like he’s really going for it when he plays for Oranje.

today when I was watching how brazil was getting humiliated by this really good team egypt, I was so happy because I was like I hope this bastard “perez” from real madrid is enjoy the humiliation if his “100″ million dollar kaka’. I was so happy to see him not being able to show anything special that makes him worth this much. vdv is better than him. Keep going like this signor kaka’ just to make perez go crazy and maybe commit a suicide for all the lost money, and hopefully cristiano ronaldo will be lost in las vagas:)

@alaa – didn’t Kaka score two goals?? I didn’t see the match, but I heard he was the highlight of Brazil’s team…?
Actually I like Kaka – he’s a great player and he’s got a great attitude too. Would be great to see him paired up with Sneijder or Van der Vaart.

About Robben being frustrated after a failed action, this CAN have a negative result in the game itself if he’s too negative towards himself.

Mistakes happen, live with it, learn, and get the next shot right. Don’t dwell too much on something that failed other than to analyze it without emotion (which is very hard the first few seconds, but then again, play goes on, so you have to stand right back at attention).

I’ve seen both Robben and vPersie (more often vPersie) so annoyed after a failed action to forget about tracking back for a few seconds or so (or doing something else useful). It doesn’t happen too often and usually it has no or little consequence, but I’m a perfectionist and if you’re talking about achieving perfection…well there you go.

The other part of feeling too much anger after a failed action is that you can start to doubt your ability to produce the goods, and if that happens, you won’t produce and you’ll get frustrated. Anybody see the Italy game? You notice that once Rossi scored that first goal the WHOLE team started playing better with a few players in particular (Pirlo, de Rossi)?

Simple mattter of starting to believe in yourself again. So other players (but most importantly things that occur during the match, like a goal) can have a positive effect on what form other players in the team are playing at(in?). So form isn’t something that is determined and set in stone for the entire match, it’s something that changes along with the emotional state of the players.

So if you draw any conclusions from that, it might now be so smart to take off an excellent player if he’s having a bad day, since it’s not actually a bad DAY as we’re so used to calling it, but more a bad 30 MINUTES (or whatever) and it can change by a goal or some fresh players on other positions creating exciting(/energizing) moments/chances/creative play getting other players out of their negative thinking.
