Van der Vaart happy with Van Marwijk

March 24th, 2009 | By: Jan | 28 Comments »

Rafael van der Vaart feared for his spot in the Oranje selection. As opposed to Juande Ramos, his Madrid coach, Bert van Marwijk still has faith in the 26-year old midfielder. And Van der Vaart is very happy about that.

“I was scared not to be picked for the first time in a long while. That would truly be a set back,” the former Ajax star said to De Telegraaf. But the creative midfielder is welcome today, when the internationals report for duty in Noordwijk. Since the last international against Tunisia, Raf only got two turns as a sub in the Merenguez squad. “Ramos clearly isn’t impressed with me. I’m definitely the biggest loser here after Schuster’s demise.”

Van der Vaart did get many compliments after his 27 minutes of play against Liverpool. “That was really good. Many club people were positive about me and that strengthens me. But to be honest, they led 3-0 when I came on… But still, I think we should have played a different game. Liverpool plays a physical game, strong in the challenges. We should have played our pass-and-move game inbetween the lines. We could have had a chance. But that’s the decision of the coach.” Asked if he plans to talk to Ramos: “Talk? No why? He makes his decisions and I can’t get a starting position by talking! I try to demonstrate my value on the trainings pitch and he’s there every day to judge me.”

About the Dutch team manager. “Van Marwijk does have confidence in me, and that’s what I currently miss at Real. The vibe between him and me is great. It’s amazing how Van Marwijk won the hearts of the whole group in a short time span. The players will move mountains for him. And that certainly applies to me. Van Marwijk is relaxed, open and honest. That always works well. He treats us as adults and I don’t think there’s anything that will get him off balance.”

Despite his role on the bench in the Spanish capital, Van der Vaart doesn’t want to ponder and discuss leaving. “That’s way too early. For starters, I love my life in Spain. Being part of Real Madrid is a dream come true. I won’t throw the towel that easily. Ramos might change his mind if I keep working hard and play at my best. And who knows, we could have another coach next year. But, if the situation doesn’t change and my WC will be threatened by this situation, I might reconsider.”

There’s numerous rumors going around. One has Guus Hiddink praising him and suggesting Chelsea to sign the midfielder. “Listen, there’s always rumors and I can’t really pay attention to that….but if this rumor is true, it would be good news. Guus is not just some coach, is he? When he says something it’s worth something.”

van der Vaart is a better midfielder than Sneijder. I am sure of that as a HSV fan and watching almost all of his games for us.
Ramos has no idea, look at how modric has played since he left spurs. Ramos didn’t rate him at all. Similar case with vdV i reakon.

When Sneijder was injured at the beginning of the campaign Schuster played Van der Vaart and he actually did very well, then suddenly the German coach decided to bench Rapha so Sneijder could play and from that moment on VdV hasn’t been able to show his real form. I know he’s a great player but maybe he lacks selfconfidence.
Moving might be the best decision but you never know maybe one of these days he plays an extraordinary game and they give him more playing time!!.

He should replace del Piero – same style/shape, even looks a bit like him and could be moulded to replicate the little master.
The reason Wesley gets the nod over Raf is that he had a good season last year. Still to show his best but getting there. Bert may give Raf a start in the second game but not against Scotland.
Here is my GUESS ! Not my choice :)
Steks
Boula Ooier Mathijsen Gio
Bommel de Jong
Robben Sneijder vP
Hunter

My Choice
Steks
Marcellis Bommel Mathijsen Braafheid
Kuyt de Jong Schaars vP
Sneijder

I have to admit: Raf is more exciting than Wes. Better? That’s a subjective word… Something you have to define… I like Raf more. I always thought Sneijder was overrated a tad. He’s smart and all that but somewhat predictable and in all honesty I think he is just not good enough for the level of Real, Barca, Man United… Sue me!

Does anyone know what the goss is on Ramos and Real for next season?

I can’t imagine Ramos getting a contract for next seasons at Madrid… His tactics vs Liverpool were shonky, to say the least. Playing Diarra and Gago centrally and leaving Hunter off the team sheet.

Who could be a good coach for Real? Please: no Hiddinks…

@jan agree on rafa.Rafa is better talent than znijder. But znijder is more hardworking and has more accurate shots in his boots.but Rafa is more artist he can split any hard diffence and he won lot of very very important matches for holland with his pure talents and brilliance.ie aginst czech in qualifying WC2006 etc and so many tough away games.Still i beleive with a fit Rafa and Nestel we would have killed portugal in 2006WC.
Rafa is more a team player than znijder.Especially i have seen in several games that znijder has tried to score himself from difficult positions instead of passing to the suitable collegue. He failed in all those times and the end result was bombardment of ball with the opposite diffender.I feel rafa can be essential ingradient of champion team.but the players like znijder and roban, really i doubt?

Jan I read somewhere that Ramos would be offered another year if he either won the league or the CL – one down! Rijkaard has been mentioned but I dont think he would go on principle matters. Guus has “been there”. They are obviously talking to a host of candidates at the moment. Tactics against Pool were pathetic. Should have known he would fail in England he’s “been there” too.

Raffi is too hard for Juande Ramos to use in his team. Look Luka Modric, you will see. I think Raffi’s ability more expensive than Sneijder. why all Ajax fan call him be Johan 2. Sneijder is only star player in Oranje but with Raffi, he is expected to become leader and Capital of Oranje in wolrd cup 2010. The problem is that he maybe lacks of self-confidence

I put Robben on the right wing, because he is more effective when operating on the right. He will score using his left foot.

if im not mistaken, robben plays also on the right wing now for real. he does there quite well. i really think against scotland we need kuyt in the field. you are going to need players that can take a beating. id like to see sneijder play midcenter one half, and raf the other.
