Van de Sar trains separately

Edwin van de Sar did not train with the group today. The experienced goalie was still troubled by his calf muscles. In the second half of the match against S&M the Mancunian keeper was struck with muscle cramps twice and only did some individual jogging sessions during the training, both yesterday and today. Van Bommel and Mathijsen – the latter being courted by Spanish topclub Sevilla – have recovered enough to resume group traiing. It seems all three will be fit and ready to play Ivory Coast next Friday. Like last Thursday, the training today was open for the public. And although local authorities expected thousands of fans, only hundred in Oranje clad supporters showed up, serving up a standing ovation when the group came out on the field.

latest news:

vanBasten told journalist at the pressconference today that he intents to start with the same starting line up as he did against S&M, so no vanderVaart..
any opinions

vanBasten was also very funny:

a german journalist asked if vanBasten is gonna put restrictions(?) on the players when in a few days time the girlfriends would arive..

answer vanBasten:
you misunderstood, its the wives that come and visit not the girlfriends, it would get to crowdy..

yes my fellow holland fans, he maybe looks cool and distant but thats only on the outside

I would like to see Van der Vaart in the starting eleven. Unfortunetely if he was in it would mean Sneijder sat out. I would like to see him over Van Bommel. But if by chance we go down a goal in the 2nd half he is the perfect ingredient to bring in.

Great so no van der vaart. Again.

Van Basten should make a risk and play him or else he’ll never get fit for this world cup.

what is the player’s status at least?

I guess MvB wants this team to settle. The play against S&M was good but not great. I guess he’ll let vdVaart come on if it doesn’t work against IC. Furthermore, the match against IC will be a tough one, physically. Argentina is probably a better opponent for vdVaart to play against. His time will come.

agree Jan, best is not to take too many risks, there’s a lot of games goming up (hopefully) we’ll need vanderVaart then, im sure theres more football in the game against Arg. (maybe well be both qualified!)

eager to see what our german friends will show us..

MVB sez that van der vaart is healed and fit–so we will see him at some point soon, I think. This game is huge–I’m hoping that Holland’s technical skills and positioning will trump the serious physicality of the Ivorians. They’ve got a good team.
