Van Basten wants results, Been wants rest

February 26th, 2009 | By: Jan | 9 Comments »

Former Barca man Gabri, important for the balance….

Ajax coach Marco van Basten will confront Fiorentina the Italian way. “We don’t want to be vulnerable.”

Defending the 1-0 lead, Van Basten choses to change his playing style. No 4-3-3 in Europe for Ajax, but 4-4-2. “The only thing that counts for me is the result. I don’t want to give anything away. And remember, we have strikers that can decide a game in a few seconds, all by themselves.”

Suarez is the go to man for Van Basten and his lieutenant will be Leonardo this time around. Sulehmani will start on the bench. Emanuelson is the creative midfielder, with Gabri, Enoh and Lindgren as holding players and support players for the defense. Vertonghen is back in the team and Van der Wiel is recovering from a flu attack. If he can’t play, Silva will take over.

Line up Ajax: Stekelenburg; Van der Wiel, Oleguer, Vermaelen, Vertonghen; Lindgren, Gabri, Enoh, Emanuelson; Leonardo, Suarez.

Mario Been’s NEC wil need to brush a 0-3 defeat away in Hamburg. Impossible? Been: “Nothing is impossible in football. You start at 0-0 again. They can make mistakes. They can take it too easy. If we score and early goal, who knows? But, realistically, we’re out of Europe. I will rest some players who need it, but we don’t want to be played off the pitch again.”

I want to see Assiati play with sujemani:

————————–stekelenburg————————————-

—–Van.der.weil——-oleguer———vermaelen——-Vertongen———-

————————Gabri———–sno——————————–

—–Assiati—————-sujemani——————–Emanuelson———

—————————-Suarez——————————————
But it seems van basten isnt as daring and attack minded as he was with Holland… shame.

@marc; this line-up looks for too light for me….vBasten knows that any decent team starts with a solid defense…you need to build from that

i reckon only Twente will go to the next round, too bad Ellia is suspended

NEC have NO change in a million years… they just need to pray that they wont get slaughtered

In the 2005 Champions League in Turkey, Liverpool was down 3:0 against Milan, in the first half. Milan celebrated with Champaign during half-time…Liverpool came back to tie the game and eventually become Champions. Who among the football fans who watched that game thought Liverpool could win that game at halftime?”No One on Earth! Liverpool has no Chance in a zillion of light of years!”That Final is History Now(Long Forgotten by the Masses)!
Well, I still believe that NEC has a chance…and they can indeed win.
Anyway…I hope Van Basten and my dear Ajax get through the next round by decapitating Fiorentina with ease.
Go AJAX…GO VAN BASTEN!!!

@vBasten ; i remember watching the game until the 1st half cause i thought it was over…i switched to the game in the 2nd half and didnt believe my eyes… what a great final it turned out to be
BUT its no comparison(?) with NEC – HSV cause HSW has so much more qualities than NEC…that wasnt the case in the final of the Champ. Leg. that year

off topic ; yesterday vanStee, the De Graafschap manager was fired..hes the 7th this season and its an all time record for februari…looks like managers are either given less than a year or stay at the club for 10 years plus..

NEC are out for shure
Ajax should be praying that Fiorentina won’t score 2 or 3 goals.
Twente have the most chance of going through, their defence is impressive, with Brama on midfield, solid back four Stam-Douglas-Rajkovic-Braafheid and experienced keeper Boshker, they really developed well. I only hope they won’t be giving it away.

Looks to me very likely to be a couple of Premier League Clubs butting heads in the next round.

This disappoints me for sjits sake! Twente out! I wanted another Dutch team to achieve something with wingers and adventurous play. I hate Olympique M!!

This is too bad and makes me more worried about Dutch football. AZ, Feyenoord, PSV, Twente, NEC…nice but no cigars. Not even a match!
