Van Basten taking things slow

April 14th, 2006 | By: Mike | 3 Comments »

Van Basten was interviewed almost a month ago and was asked about Real Madrid and AC Milan coaching opportunities. He dismissed them saying he was only thinking about Holland and his current contract as the Dutch manager.

The interesting quote that I noticed was, “We achieved a good qualification to the World Cup, but the aim is Euro 2008.” In light of his comments about their inexperience this takes on a more significant weight. Perhaps the idea is to build a squad that will be world beaters in two years time at Euro 2008 and then at the 2010 World Cup. Interesting…where do you readers see the Dutch team in two years time?

In two years time there is no doubt that the dutch team will be unstoppable and have a big chance of winning euro 2008.
It is true that the team is too young and the oponents are really tough even passed the first round but there is always this little voice in me that tell me the Oranje should really shine in this world cup. I want them to go so far so bad after eight years of desperate waiting.

[...] I was considering van Basten’s comments a while back about how he was looking forward to Euro 2008 and not specifically this year’s world cup. I thought we would have a look at the players named in the squad and see where they’ll be come 2008 and 2010. [...]
