Van Basten distances himself from JC

October 12th, 2007 | By: Jan | 11 Comments »

The farce surrounding Ruud van Gol’s football qualities and JC’s opinion about those has ended, as far as Marco van Basten is concerned.

During a press-conference inwhich the news that Edwin van der Sar is too injured to play any game for Oranje in the next couple of days was broken, the press were interested in Marco’s take on the matter.

Van Basten: “Johan Cruyff is not part of this coaching staff. He advises the KNVB, or at least he did. I am very happy with Ruud. He does very well for Oranje, he does very well for Madrid. I also think he is a good player and I suppose I disagree with Johan on that matter.”

Van Basten is still keeping his cards close to his chest. “Seedorf seems to be the most likely replacement for Sneijder. But, there are many options. We are thinking hard what we’ll do. One can expect the unexpected with us.”

On systems he said: “In fact, with Raf van der Vaart on the right flank, it’s almost as if we’re playing 4-4-2. Sometimes Raf stays on midfield and joins the strikers centrally. It depends on what moment of the match you are determining the system we play. I think we sort of switch between 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 during the game… The most important thing, is not the system, but to keep the flow going, and to stay flexible.”

Is it van basten’s words?? can’t believe it. the system is not important, JC is not part of the staff, ruud is good, seedorf may play. mention of the ‘diabolic’ 4-4-2!! was that van basten?

I hope Seedorf plays against Romania. It’d be an insult to bench him now that Sneijder can’t play.

Yes, I think we should play with Cavin Jong, Joris Math Jen Son, Ron Varl and Bula Hruz. But I still think we should put Gio Vani at least at the bench. And maybe van Basten could call up Jasdfknakdf Skasdfkjstam to safen the defense.

That would make me feel very safe.

you’re right tju – i’m thinking about big games too: our defence would be inexistant against ribery,anelka,henry/toni/kaka,ronaldinho/messi,aguero,tevez… btw last night i saw argentina vs chile. i would ask you if i’m alone with my opinion but i’ve been thinking for 3-4 years that argentina is from far the best national team (with really dominant and attractive football) in the world but at big tournaments due to different reasons they always under achieve. do you also think that they are the best national team or am i wrong?
