Valencia wants Ronald Koeman
After having sacked coach Sanches Flores and after having asked Mourinho, Capello, Lippi and Scolari whom all said “no” it seems Ronald Koeman is the number one choice (…) to fill in the managers position at Valencia. The PSV coach had a tough season, winning the championship on the last day, after having squandered a 15 points lead. The PSV board had almost fired him, but decided to respect his contract. Rumours that PSV started secret talks with Martin Jol started immediately after Jol’s sacking, so maybe PSV will ‘help” Koeman make his decision.

Koeman has never proven to be a good manager… maybe im a bit biased but its the same with all these ‘88 guys…its all been to easy…only Rijkaard ever trained a ‘bad’ team (Sparta) and he got relugated!!
Koeman. vanBasten, vanTSchip, Rijkaard (altough i rate him just a little higher than the rest)
Koeman is just a name…nothing more (and he has an irratating voice btw…he talks like a little girl)
Good luck Ronald…hope you stay abroad the rest of the time!

Looks like he really is leaving right now!! PSV gives a press conference tonight, spanish media says he had signed for the rest of this season plus 2 seasons after that

i don’t think that koeman is that bad. Goose you’re really biased with this generation;-) i loved koeman as a player (he gave us our first cl in 92 and he’s still a hero in barcelona)and he’s a funny guy. valencia will fit to his tactics - very defensive team with talented players(david villa, joaquim, silva, morientes). barca-valencia games will be interesting, rijkaard versus koeman. but first of all with or without koeman i really really hope that valencia will beat real tonight. good luck for him.

I agree with Goose… The 1988 generation - or some of them - think that coaching is a natural next step for players. And it is not! It’s about team tactics (van Basten never cared about the team when he played), it’s about discipline (Gullit), people skills, communication, training-programs, management, psychology… Not something you learn per se when playing winger or sweeper at a European top club. Adriaanse was right then and now.
Koeman never impressed as a coach. I always felt Ajax and PSV became champs despite Koeman. Rijkaard and Wouters are good professional coaches now, who had to learn the hard way. Gullit will never be seen back as coach I think. Vanenburg is struggling. Van Breukelen failed…
If a top club somewhere makes a short list for a new coach, one of the items will be “experience as a player”. But also other aspects. One of them being: having proven himself as a success coach (and maybe also with good football). Koeman can’t have a tick behind his name for that…
He is a name. A big name in Spain. And that’s the shallowness that reigns in football.
