Valencia says no to Sneijder

June 3rd, 2007 | By: Jan | 8 Comments »

Wesley Sneijder was not in his best form against South Korea. Maybe his manager had just sent him a text/sms message. Valencia CF has informed Ajax that they will not come back to the negotiations table for Wesley.

Ajax manager Martin van Geel: “Wesley is 22 years old. I know of his ambitions, but he can easily fulfill these when he’s 23, 24 or even 25 years old. We are sorry for him, but we are not unhappy to have Wesley here another year. There will always be other options in the future, but for now, there are no tangible contacts with other clubs. Luckily, I know Wesley doesn’t feel it’s a punishment to stay a bit longer in Amsterdam, so in a way nothing is lost…”

Well, I think Sánchez, Valencia´s coach didn´t want Sneijder at all and if he goes there he may spend the whole year at the bench. Valencia is not the club for Wesley but I do hope a big team comes and takes him away from Ajax and if not he should not panic because he is very young right now and can still learn a lot!

Agreed. I was never happy with him moving to Valencia. I like to see him at Barca or United… But who am I exactly??

Jan: i would like to see him in a bigger club too. but at manu with their two new boys it seems impossible. maybe at barca but even there is not too much need of more attacking-minded midfielders and he’s not too good in defending. maybe next year to replace deco.

it wouldn’t be bad if he stayed at ajax and ajax made a good cl. i really would like to see a great ajax again. if the best player stay they will have the chance to do rhat. now they have the optimal balance between old masters (edgar, stam) and young talents (wesley, huntelaar, babel, emmanuelson, heitinga, stekelenburg). and henk ten cate is a good coach.

I totally agree with ferenc. I’d also love to see a dutch team with success in the UCL and I think Ajax next year (as ferenc said) if they keep the top players they will be a very difficult team to beat.

Sneijer is a great player, only 22 years of age. I think he is a top team player and should wait till a top team came for him. Great news to hear he is not going to Valencia.

Read this morning that Wesley is pissed off though. He blames Ajax to want too much money for him. “What do they want, for me to walk out of the door for nothing in two years time?”

He said he didn’t want to kick a stinker and cause a riot or something but he does feel Ajax is treating him wrong.

Martin van Geel said: “I understand Wesley’s position, but as far as we know, it’s not end of August yet This could well be a ploy by Valencia. Let’s just wait and see.”

honestly 15 millions (the sum ajax asked) are not too much for him. look at the two new guys at manunited – the bought them for 25-25… weslwy is more famous for them, it means that valencia underestimated him.

Fully agree. Wesley is the leader/playmaker of Ajax, is a full on Oranje international, prolific goalscorer as a midfielder, great at setpieces, good worker, great eye and vision… 15 Mio at 22 years, he’s a bargain…

Yes, of course he is a bargain.

Sneijder is only 22 but he has a lot of experience, he has already played in EC2004 and WC2006.
He is rushing things too much, there is no need for him to be desperate for a new club and Valencia is a good club but he could go to a bigger one.
