Titbits

After all the hussle and bussle in Amsterdam (Cruyff in, Van Basten signed) Ajax had to play NAC in Breda. Now, NAC Breda is doing great this season and were prepared for a rejuvenated Ajax. Ajax got to the 0-1 after Edgar Davids found Huntelaar. NAC fought itself back into the game and came up 2-1. In the 75th minute, Emanuelson found the net and John Heitinga scored the winner late in the match.

Edgar Davids was the big man, but after the match, he hinted on his future. “I’m not sure if I will play next season. There will come a time that I will have to quit. Maybe that’s next season.” Whether he would like to stay to see if Marco van Basten can make Ajax champs again. “I’m not sure. It’s hard to tell. I can’t tell you if that will happen, because let’s face it, he hasn’t really proven that he can, right?”.

PSV Eindhoven again played an unremarkable game, but did win 4-1 against De Graafschap, with two Lazovic goals and – again – Ottman Bakkal scoring. Interim manager Sef Vergoosen: “We have trouble playing good football, it’s true. But, at least we can rise to the occasion as a team and fight ourselves to a win. That’s a quality too.”

Feyenoord drew against Heracles, 3-3. Bert van Marwijk: “It’s unbelievable, we do it to ourselves. We score three times in an away game, that should be enough. But we defend horribly. Not just in the back, also in midfield. Sometimes you just need to kick the ball out of the stadium in order to win a game.” Feyenoord hasn’t played a decent game in 2008, and questions are asked whether Van Marwijk’s decision to lead Oranje has any influence. “I could understand that too. So I have asked my players, we talked about it and they said it didn’t demotivate them. And to be honest, apart from the shabby defending, we did play better today then we did in the last weeks.”

AZ was happy with a draw against FC Twente. The number three of last season is struggling to perform wel without Orlando Engelaar, who’s injured. AZ played decent football and created opportunities, but again, luck wasn’t on their side. “Well,” van Gaal said, “if this is the case for weeks now, you can’t keep calling it bad luck.”

In Spain, Madrid lost 0-1 against Bernd Schuster’s former club Getafe. With Van Nistelrooy, Robben and sub Drenthe Real Madrid wasn’t able to turn the many opportunities into goals. Arjen Robben saw a goal disallowed. In the meantime, Barca jumped three points after winning 5-1 against Levante. Samuel Eto’o was the big man with a hattrick. Rijkaard: “I am happy with the way we played. We are in a good period now, and our players are all fit. It’s important to keep it that way.”

Re – Edgar Davids.

I remember reading or hearing some years ago about an incident where the pitbull was sitting in his car at traffic lights when a couple of thugs attempted a carjacking. The pitbull’s response was to get out and give them a beating.

Any truth to this or is it just an ubran legend?

The traffic light story is true. Can’t remember the specifics, but it was a car-related incident and Edje did deal with it :-)

welcome back ferenc!!

Davids told press that changes are great hell stop after this season..

@Jerome; its true but not like you tell it … he had a traffic related arguement and than hit a guy in the face (and he was wearing some kind of lether driving gloves)

think Davids is more an imago than anything else… it was great to have him on our team but outside the pitch he was pathetic…acting like ‘the brothers’form the US, never talk to the press, disrespect authority (remember Hiddink ‘96), disrespecting teammates(remember vBommel) always acting the rough boy… he has a very small brain also..

he had an argument with Robby Keane, he wanted to settle it outside but didnt know that Keane was an amateur boxer..hahaha.. Davids got his ass kicked!

no place for Davids in Oranje since years

@goose, as you have stated, we need an a-hole on this team, and since vBommel is not coming back this summer, Davids is the only a-hole we have left.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story, eh?

I thought Edgar was going to slip into anonymity when he left Ajax in the mid-90s, but he was resurrected and reinvented by Lippi at Juve. Even if he doesn’t play for Oranje any more, who can forget that last minute goal against Yugoslavia in ‘98?

I think ive posted it before but…:
“Bogarde was an extreme egoist and extreme in every single thinkable way. That man could never be wrong, he never made a bad pass and lacked every kind of self-knowlegde. He saw himself as Gods gift to mankind.

During pre-season training, we trained two times a day and sometimes we ran a one kilometer path in small groups. The directions were easy, the groups were meant to keep a good pace and the groups were supposed to be held together. Jesper (Blomqvist) was in Bogardes group and Bogarde wanted to show everybody his excellent physics, so he always run a little bit ahead of everyone in his group. If the group reached him, he only speeded up the pace, again leaving a big hole between him and the rest of the group.

After the training, Jesper was sarcastic and tried to kid in a way that absolutely couldnt be missunderstood. Jesper smiled, lauged and changed his voice in a kidding manner and said to bogarde that “Wwow, what an big, strong man your are who runs that fast that no-one of us has a chance to get along”. The extremely serious Bogarde didnt understand that everybody was joking and raised his chest and said in his normal arrogant way – “It is normal. It is always like this.”

Noone could take him seriously. The worst thing was that he didnt have any irony at all. He was always dead serious in showing how good and great he was. If Bogarde hit a bad pass in training, it was always someone elses fault. Bogarde saw himself as a spotless sun. Somewhere, something went wrong in his childhood.”

Oh by that way, I quoted Andreas Andersson, former Swedish international who played with Bogarde in Milan.

thanx Lerkot; didnt know that story… actually meant more of an asshole on the pitch, like mean etc…

but i can see Bogarde lacking the skills to have a laugh, and make fun of himself

he never really was a real player, didnt play for the love of the game, just the money (who else would be able to sit on the bench for years and years and nevr look for anther team to actually play?)

all i know of his childhood that it was a poor one (moneywise) and that he had lots of siblings… i cant get myself to read: “deze neger buigt voor niemand” guess this title tells you all about how this man sees himselfs…patathic guy Bogarde
