Three Dutch players on short list Golden Ball

The Netherlands has three platers on the France Football shortlist for player of the year 2007. On December 2 the winner will be announced.

The three nominees from Oranje are Ruud van Nistelrooy, Robin van Persie and Clarence Seedorf. The Van Persie nomination is remarkable since the Arsenal striker was injured half a year in 2007.

The 50 nominees for the Golden Ball are:

Eric Abidal (Fra/Barcelona)
Daniel Alves (Bra/Sevilla)
David Beckham (Eng/Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy)
Dimitar Berbatov (Bul/Tottenham Hotspur)

Ruud Van Nistelrooy (Ned/Real Madrid)
Robin Van Persie (Ned/Arsenal)
David Villa (Spa/Valencia)

So, who would you pick??

I’d pick:

1. David Beckham (his story at Real Madrid was remarkable and it would fit a great career)
2. Clarence Seedorf (CL winner, what can you say more)
3. Ruud van Nistelrooy (his performance for Real Madrid)

Jan, I think Beckham will top that list for his name. But his performances for Madrid were good but not spectacular as the ones that Ruud, Ramos, Casillas and Diarra had. Beckham will not even be in my top 50, he has had just a few games and at Real while when he went to USA he has done anything there yet because he has been injured the whole time but cashing big dollars juts because of his name.

I hope van der vaart can make the list for next year, because I think he honestly deserves the award a lot more than others. He’s a hard worker for a poor quality team, and has gotten 7 goals in 8 games this year. If he gets back soon, he will easily score in the teens, and probably be on the list along with sneijder, van persie, seedorf, and van nistelrooij next year.

non,he hasn’t - he was third in 2002 and second in 2003 - these years van basten and roberto baggio were the winners.

you are right - at the moment van persie seems to be the only one potential winner in the coming 4-5 years (maybe sneijder too but i’m not that sure). it depends on messi too, because he might win 4 or 5 in a row. he has the potential for this.

No goose, Bergkamp never won it.

I think out of the Dutch candidates, van Persie is least likely to win it. He is a superb player but I don’t think he has achieved enough to win footballer of the year. Ruud is probably the best candidate, 25 goals in 38 games for Real in his first season is an amazing strike rate.

I actualy agree with the first comment from ferenc though:
1. kaka
2. messi
3. cristiano ronaldo

I’d like to add a comment about Beckham: he is the most overrated soccer player in history. He should even be in the list.
Just my comment…
