Those crazy Dutch…

Who have the best supporters? Why the Dutch do of course!! Sure we may not have some guy in a sombrero banging a drum or ten thousand jiggling mulheres but we’ve definately got a guy wearing a cow with a trumpet up its arse and plenty of young men dressed up as women.

Hey I just call ‘em how I see ‘em…the Dutch are a wierd bunch to be sure

In my experience the Dutch are definately the nicest and friendliest supporters I have ever met.
It was a hot Saturday afternoon in a small city of Faro. 4 hours before the Holland vs. Sweden game of EC2004. The city was ower-flowing with orange…everywhere you turned there was guys in soccer ball suits, funny hats, interesting necklasses and of course, guys dressed up as women.
My wife, 5 year old daughter and I decided to go into the town square where the Dutch brought their own band for the occasion. They set up an impromptu bandstand and the band was entertaining a few thousand partying Dutch. My daughter was so smitten with one guys hat that he gave it to her, and then someone else gave her a lion necklace, then someone an orange flag and she ended the afternoon singing amidst a sea of orange on some guys sholders waving the Dutch flag…..to this day she still runs through the house with the hat and neklace yelling HUP, HUP.
A wonderful experience with wnderful fans.
Pedro, I live in Canada but am studying in the US; my parents were born there.

I was in Amsterdam in 1994 for a couple days during the World Cup. I remember orange everywhere and lots of beer. Had a great time and then had the pleasure of seeing Holland play Ireland on the 4th of July in Orlando. The fans that made the trip to the US were pure class.
Dutch fas are good. In ONE match (EC04) I didn’t support them – you can guess which.
At the end they congratulated the portuguese with the victory. They drink a lot of (waterlike) beer but cause no trouble.
Even I have an orange plastic trumpet – The “Toeter”. Toch…?

[...] This one is inspired by a post by our stellar blogger Mike on the Netherlands blog. Every country has its share of loyal and vocal supporters, but we think it is fair to say that some countries receive better support than others. At the risk of angering fans from the other 27 countries, we’ve come up with our top five list of supporters in this year’s World Cup. Our highly subjective criteria includes the number of people who travel in support of their team, their level of insanity and simply the folks that we think do a great job cheering on the lads. [...]
