The Newspapers…

September 10th, 2007 | By: Jan | 5 Comments »

The Press is not overwhelmed by Oranje, for now. In football terms, that is. The press is defnitely happy with the results. And Johan Cruyff praised Demy de Zeeuw.

The AD’s headline said: “Feels good!’. De Telegraaf doesn’t have any doubt about Holland qualifying for the EC. “Holland should get ready for the EC 2008. Only when things go really wrong will Oranje miss that ticket.”

Both De Telegraaf as De Volkskrant are critical about the quality of play. “When Marco van Basten started his tenure after Dick Advocaat, the words “dominant” and “attractive” were all over the place. Now, these words are seldom heard. But the results are there.”

The GPD titles emphasized the minuses of the team. “There is no reason to cheer the defense or the cohesion in the team. Oranje was vulnerable, and Melchiot and his replacement Boulahrouz made a clumsy impression. These shortcomings are being compensated by the specific skills of Babel, Sneijder, Van Persie and Van Nistelrooy.”

De Volkskrant focused on Van Nistelrooy who again didn’t get a lot of support from his team mates. “Not because they don’t want to, but because the system doesn’t enable them to…”. And…”without once being offered an assist that could lead up to a chance, Van Nistelrooy did score his goal.”

Cruyff was very positive about Demy de Zeeuw who played a “fantastic match”. “With De Zeeuw centrally in midfield and Sneijder on the right and Gio on the left, the balance was there and that created a lot of rest in te team. Holland had long periods of possession and played their best football due to him.”

Still, JC also saw some negatives. “The build up from the back is worrisome. In this way, it’s hard to get the most out of all the quality available. But, the team managed to win, managed to keep the score-sheet clean and made a huge step towards the EC. That’s important too. If that’s done, the team managers can work on the other stuff.”

Dont care about these so called great results..i remember some shitty results when it mattered the most..remember that in qualifing you play only 2-3 difficult games, just dont loose and youll qualify
what are Marcos results on the big stage? 2 wins, a draw and a loss…thats not special

and then the level of play; its pathetic, they played maybe 90 minutes of decent football during the whole of qualification.. a half in bulgary and some decent spells here and there
Marco has had plenty of time..he made some incredible errors, he f up relations with (great) players, he keeps on playing a system which has proven not to work (i was a 4-3-3 fan till saturday), and most frightning of all… no progress is to be seen.. we win cause of some individual skills, never as a team

we have nothing to do at the EC08, yes well qualify, well even make it to the second round and then my friends well be beaten at the first knock-out stage (prob. by portugal), thats it

god*&*^%^$%%$$#

Agree with Goose…the safest thing to do is let van Basten finish the qualifiers and then get rid of him before the draw and bring de Haan!!!

why should huntelaar play? he hasn’t got any decent game in the last year. his last good performance dates to last august, against ireland. since he hasn’t been proving anything – only poor performances at ajax, especially against foreigner teams.

castelen? maybe. but we already enough talented attacking-minded players, marco can’t select everyone. or you would like an oranje like this: vds – seedorf, van der vaart, babel – sneijder, affelay – castelen, van persie, rvn, huntelaar, robben?
