The Good (AZ), The Bad (Ajax) and the Ugly (PSV… Koeman, you know?)

We definitely need another post now…

AZ is the number two in the Dutch Eredivisie after PSV AND Ajax fumbled big time. Again!

AZ is two points behind with three matches to go. AZ’s goalscoring figures are better than PSV’s. +50 vs +44.

So, let’s look at AZ’s remaining program as well, shall we?

AZ – Vitesse

Interesting clash between ex-Ajax coaches Van Gaal and De Mos. Vitesse has a disappointing season, and De Mos will most definitely try to make the most of the last games. Maybe they can benefit from AZ’s UEFA cup match and upset the current number 2 in the Eredivisie.

AJAX NAC

NAC has still UEFA cup fooball to fight for. They grabbed 2 points off PSV last week and they will try to hurt Ajax. Their new coach Ernie Brands (former PSV and Oranje defender) is doing very well this first season. Not an easy game for Ajax.

PSV TWENTE

Interesting match. Twente made the play-offs. And whether they’ll end as number 2 or number 4 doesn’t really matter. But, theoretically they have even a chance of becoming champs. Coaches Rutten and Eykelkamp have pushed Twente forward with very Dutch School football. Dominating, attractive and confident. Knowing them both a little, they won’t allow their team to “chill out” because they reached the play offs. They’ll figure that you need to keep the pressure on the team to perform well in those play off games. Furthermore, Rutten and Eykelkamp were put forward by Hiddink to take over his role as head coach when he left PSV. But the PSV management wanted a big name and grabbed Ronald Koeman. Therefore, there will be some bad blood with Rutten and Eykelkamp, even though they both had some good and sweet years in Eindhoven. This could be the match inwhich PSV loses the championship.

AZ – Heerenveen

Heerenveen is currently the number 6 in the Eredivisie but they still have a chance to qualify themselves for the Play-Offs and that Champions League ticket. Feyenoord is the current number 5 but they can’t seem to muster it anymore, so Heerenveen will be motivated. They’re only three points behind Feyenoord. The Eredivisie’s top goalscorer Alves (29 goals!) plays for Heerenveen.

UTRECHT PSV

FC Utrecht doesn’t have anything to play for. That could make them fodder for PSV canons, or maybe they’ll play their happy go-lucky game and upset PSV. Who will tell? Utrecht does have that fighting spirit and historically a warm heart for Ajax, so….

AJAX SPARTA

Traditionally, Sparta is never really able to upset Ajax. Sparta plays a similar, open game but never at the same level of Ajax. Ajax won in the past with enormous scores. I remember Marco van Basten scoring 5 times against Sparta. Sparta needs only 1 point to be safe in the competition and they won’t expect to get that point against Ajax.

WILLEM 2 AJAX

Willem 2 is like Sparta a footballing team. And that means, that 99 out of a 100 times, the team with the best players will win. Ajax. Theoretically, Willem 2 is not safe yet, but they will not have counted on a victory over Ajax. Willem 2 is mentally the weakest team in the competition and Ajax will be 1-0 ahead before the teams enter the pitch.

PSV VITESSE

Vitesse had a good first half of the season, but are now in trouble. Coach Aad de Mos - former PSV and Ajax coach - tried to work wonders, but the club is a bit in dire straits. However, they do have a quality side and I am sure De Mos holds a grudge against PSV and still favours first love Ajax. Furthermore, it’s the last match of the season for Vitesse and they want to make good.

All in all, my money is on Ajax. The pressure is on PSV, whereas Ajax is on a roll. PSV has a tougher program ahead. Maybe, we’ll have a season finish like the Spanish have seen many times, with nailbiting last minutes of the season…. But…Alex may be absent from the PSV line-up, Ajax will have to miss Stam in these exciting times…

Excelsior – AZ

Excelsior will most probably be safe on the last match day of the season. Nothing to play for anymore, but the goodwill of the fans. Normally, AZ will win this game.

Watch this space….

he Jan, hope youre all right…well, its pretty unbelievable what is happening with PSV…i knew they were in trouble when Alex got injured but i had no idea it was gonna affect them in this way…i really, really hope that Az will be champions this year..they deserve it (at least if you look at the way they play football), they still have a change against Bremen and they play in the semis of the dutch Cup….go Louis!!
btw: some time ago i gave you a link to uitzendinggemist.nl…you should check out studio voetbal of last sunday..vanBasten was there as a guest and it was very interesting…he almost got into a fistfight with Hugo Borst, calling the latter a lyer etc.., i was very surprised to hear him say that the critism hurts him and that after a bad game he doenst read the papers!!
but back to the competition..Psv are now gonna trow away the Liverpool game (they had no change anyway but..), the most importent players will stay in Eindhoven for the last games of the competition…Ajax already showed it cant handle the pressure so my hopes are high…i would like to end with a little rhyme we sing at Den Haag:

Az, AZ,
geen voetbal maar ballet, hahah

YO Goose, it’s something eh? Who could’ve guessed. Although this could be the last strand of hope for PSV. They only need to win three games to be champs. But once your coach says “we zitten in de hoek waar de klappen vallen”…a team will psyhologically accept defeat. Stupid. Bad management by Koeman. I hope for AZ too…

I hope AZ will win the Eredivisie this season and also able to beat Bremen.

They have a good trainer, Louis van Gaal. And they also have a good team spirit (beating Newcastle by 2-0 to reduce the 2 goals deficit).

Or, at least I want them to participate in the CL next season. So, van Gaal will make a surprise again, like he did with Ajax in 1994/1995 CL.

Go AZ!
