Yes, 1998 was a veritable dream team. And no one quite understands how they didn't win. But most importantly, this team is way more of a team than that older team. Back in those days, there were always three of four groups within the team that stuck together (and this also lead to the infamous infighting). Here, everyone is friends with everyone. They celebrate with their families. etc. I think this team has just as much chance to win next year as our team did in '98, albeit they have different qualities than those guys. I do think Sneijder is better than R. de Boer btw. Totally different types of players, but I'd rather see Sneijder on the midfield than de Boer. We are one of the best teams in the world, and we have a chance at winning next year, plain and simple. The one thing we have always lacked is iron discipline, and I hope and think van Marwijk will instill some of that in our players from his experiences in Germany. He seems like a guy with a no bullshit attitude. I've already seen it in some of the matches, Robben coming back to defend etc etc. This would have never happened under van Basten. I have yet to hear of any conflict since VB left. 1998 was just proof that a group of world class stars is not enough to win a WC. You need team spirit and luck as well. We didn't have either. We have playmakers/hard workers in the same players: Bommel, Sneijder, Schaars, Vaart, Kuyt... We have players who can score and assist (Van Persie, Robben, Vaart)...
